BMartin,
I am sorry to hear that you have been laid off. I am hopefully, cautiously optimistic that this recession has bottomed out and we will be on an upswing by late fall.
Hang in there!

SInce December they have laid off 45 people and closed 2 offices.
Dodged the axe a few times but today they announced more including the CEO & CFO.
For them I have no sympathy but all the single moms here and folks that homes are in foreclosure etc...
Moral is really bad....we all took a 10% reduction in Sept to save jobs but did not look like it worked.
We sell luxury products so I guess when people have no money they dont need home theaters, receivers and
speakers. Send a PM if you want employee discounts on product :)
Oddly the dog training is going strong so Mark made up the extra 10% that I lost.
So thank you to all the breeders - breeding drivey strong dogs that handlers need help with!

My husband was laid off in February. The company filed chapter 7 and let everyone know that they wouldn't recieve their last 4 days of pay. We will see.

My husband was given a 3% pay cut to try to stave off lay-offs, my son-in-law's framing company went under last fall, no pay for the last 2 homes they framed out, about 3.5 weeks pay. No, we haven't hit bottom yet, we're in a depression, not a recession. My daughter, sil & 2 grandkids are teetering on the edge of homelessness, since he lost his job paying the mortgage is top priority, but tough for them, all of we relatives are pretty well tapped out, we've all been trying to help, but you can only do so much.We pray a lot. Nerves are shot, tempers raw......tough times may bring some folks together, like Carl (my hubby) & I, but it's tearing them apart, & it really sucks to have to just watch it happen. They're breaking my heart. And I'll have to rehome the pup I gave them, & watch the kids cry when I take him.....
God! I sure hope it doesn't happen!jh

I was laid off in 06 while building multifamily condos. about 80% of the carpenters are out of work here in northern illinois where home building was a big business. found a nice distressed home :2 bdrm and rehabbed it to a four bdrm and sold it just before the shit hit the fan! took early retirement at double nickle and pick up small jobs doing kitchen and bath rehabs. sorry to say but like betty davis used to say hold onto your hats boys it is going to be a bumpy ride! the obama turd will finish us off so grab your butts people and good luck!

Everyone in Michigan knows how it is. I am fortunate to have gotten in the medical field where no lay-offs are happening yet. I did work for a restaurant as a manager and they are even cutting them. Michigan has been hit very hard, with almost 20% unemployment in our county alone. For those who are laid off, hopefully things turn around and get better, we as a country can come back from this, we have done it once before.

Think bank tellers or insurance agencies.
