I have the log cabin and the acreage faaaar from any neighbours.....  I want heated polished concrete floors.  Easy to sweep - I hate vacuuming dog hair day after day after day after day after day.....

My ideal floor....

I have an inground pool, but I want a doggie shower....

and my dogs run free but I'd like a nice chainliked area when they girls go into heat.....

some friends of ours have the coolest setup ever.  they have a single car garage attatched to their house - converted into a dog facility.  the front still has a functional garage door that can be raised  and the back has a walk thru door that opens into a fenced in dog yard.  the garage is airconditioned and heated.  several very nice custombuilt kennels line the outside wall.  the door to the house conveniently opens into the kitchen and stairway to basement.  this is the best arrangement i have seen for folks who like to live with their dogs, but still can manage the dogs cleanly and efficiently outside the house.  if they have to go away for the day, the dogs are secure yet still have the area about 5X the size of an x large crate.  their adult dogs prefer to do their business in the fenced in area so kennels stay clean.  i have never smelled any dog odor inside the house.  tthe whole system works perfectly.

Don't forget a small second house for around the place help.      Shelley is right, acres that's aren't usable don't count for much.  And stairs......  Let's see, you're recovering from knee surgery now.  I want single story.

I found my dream place, too bad I won't be ready to move for a couple more years.  LOL  42 acres, mostly flat, mostly pasture, three houses, lots of barns.

Ah well, I hope you find your dream.

edited for minor typo, ugh.

Ziegenfarm-That really sounds like the hot set-up! That's kind of what I'm looking for, either walk-out basement or garage.......sounds cool!

Animules-Absolutely! All the living area single story, eh-hem, LAUNDRY ROOM UPSTAIRS...!!! My knee with the prosthesis is doing fine & going up & down stairs is pretty OK already--much better than it used to be! But the left knee hurts now, probably from favoring the right leg after surgery! There's no winning!

Ronnie- whereever you're happy, I'm happy. (with some limitations!  jh

Since moving 20 months ago my kennels are well on the way to becoming just what I always wanted.
We purchased a home on 40 acres, from the road to the house and shedding area it is flat and cleared with a few  trees and 2 dams and out the back it is level and then a slight elevation up to a forested area with plenty of tracks through it. We do have some wildlife problems so we have to keep the dogs on lead when we are in this area.
Down near the house are a number of sheds and one that we have converted into our kennel shed is 60 feet x 30 feet here we have 5 kennels at one end and 4 at the other, 1 being a double size so that I can use it as a bath and grooming area and in between the 2 areas there is pea gravel on the ground. This shed has 2 very large sliding doors and we have added 6 foot high meshed security gates and depending on the weather they are open during the day.
There is also a shed that has a connecting shed that has been converted to a whelping and puppy area, this is close to the house and away from the other kennels. Then we have 3 large outside runs and 1 smaller puppy run. My other half thinks he is almost finished.

Here is the kennel shed just after we finished the first side.

And out the back to the forest

Dogshome....I'm jeolous! That's impressive! Where do you live? I wouldn't need as complex a set-up as that, but it sure is pretty!  jh
