Banana backed is usually an expression reserved for German Showlines - roach backed etc.

You will probably see narrow dogs with narrow heads and floppy pasterns walking on their hocks with back legs that wobble.

EDIT - I would like to say I had "heard" the phrase banana or roach in response to the German Showlines. And it appears from a stack but that is an unnatural position to put a dog in.

EDIT - Yes I have seen American Champion GSDs that were absolutely crippled. They seem to be improving in recent years compared to what they were but that does not change the facts and all you have to do is look on Amlines breeder sites for those narrow heads.

Now, I am crawling back to the ugly working lines corner.

Nancy is a name close to my heart... it was my mum's name.  But...

Nancy, narrow dogs with narrow heads and floppy pasterns, walking on their hocks?  What dog shows do you go to?  LOL  Reserved for German showlines eh?  I so wanted you to live up to my mum's name!

Sita is among other things coated so will not qualify for a conformaion show, she has drive and a great nose. She's lovin SchH training.

Hero is just learning to strut his stuff. I'll be happy when I can get back to  SchH with him.

Theo is very handsom and looks strong.

Oh, Miss Beeb - you are in the UK, correct?

I was referring to AKC, American Showlines.  I have been to some events at the local kennel club and forced myself to watch some American dog shows on TV. I think the British showlines are closer to the German, no?

Nancy, yes... most UK Shepherds are Germanic.

Those dogs are the very reason that I had to stop going to the AKC shows.  Between seeing those gsds and one too-many Scotties with Scottie-cramp, I was sick.

If by "cracking gsd"s, you mean it looks as about their pasterns or back are about to crack in two, then yes, thats accurate, for the many AKC show type, at least.

Misbeeb, Nancy was, I believe, trying to describe the faults themselves, not making blanket statements.
