it is very easy to stop all this nonsence just give the breed its true name of German Shepherd Dog get rid of the name alsatian because there is no such dog that is how easy it is one name one type simple.

Sophie,he wasn't placed in the Pastoral Group and the judge was female, unless Zena has become a man's name..

Zamp was short listed into the last 6 of the Pastoral group but didnt make it into any of the group 4 placings. I believe Politics took over, the dog that won had been tipped to win BIS well before the Crufts schedules were out, he had come all the way from the States, the judges at this level enjoy a swap shop of invitations to All breed shows around the world and so the winner was Hot Tipped , Zamp was the fly in the ointment that had threatened to upset the Apple Cart and almost did, but politics are a hard nut to crack and not to forget the dog that won the Pastoral did go on to get BIS as tipped.

Sue,exactly.
The judge tried to blame the handler for not placing Zamp, saying he hadn't be handled properly,I think the handler was Zamp's owner's daughter.
The judge knew she had dropped herself in it and was looking for an excuse for not placing him.

It sounds like the Judge WAS AFRAID to place a German Dog first! (COWARDS!) They do this here in America!
Who ended up winning the Herding Group?  Sorry... In England it is the Pastoral Group? Did a American Shepherd win from here in the States? If so... all I can say is GAG ME!!!

Is there a link to it? Possibly on You Tube?

Dawn it was a Samoyed that won the  PASTORAL GROUP   then went on to   RES BIS,

BIS   came from the  WORKING GROUP   won by the magnificent Giant Schnauzer

I can happily say that the Sami who came 2nd last year is a lovely dog - she goes to my ringcraft group - where she has helped with socialising my puppies, and her owner is also a genuine lady who doesnt hesistate to help others no matter what their breed.  Whilst I attend this class for my Cardi and not GSDs, I regularly take a GSD with me for the interaction with other breed.

IMO a GSD will not get placed higher at crufts until the debates are settled and also the issues of "mutants" etc has settled down.  I said prior to the show that something non controversial would win and I was right.  I also feel that over the next few months we will see more and more dogs that are often in the background coming foward and wining BOS at mixed breed shows, as it will mean that judges are not put in the firing line for putting up dogs with issues.

Having read the posts here I would like to comment as follows

1.  The attracting of dogs by the Alsatianists has been going on for at least 39 years.  This is usually done by rattling keys, coughing, walking in view of their dog with it's kennel mate, or, shouting to a friend across the ring so that their dog hears their voice.

2.  The handling of the dogs by the Alsatianists is very poor.  The dogs are often strung up on very thin collars.  The handler often place their knee in the dogs  side  and create a bend  will gives the illusion of more angulation.  It also prevents shy dogs from backing off.  When shy dogs are shown and having their teeth seen it is very easy for the handlers to  hold their hand over the dogs eyes which again stops the dog backing off.  Please do not say that this does not happen because I used to do these things on the owners instruction back in the early seventies before I saw the light and changed sides.

3.  Why the German side show people  show under an All Rounder, or, Middle of the Road judge is a mystery to me.  Just show under a proper breed specialist.  There are enough shows.  Challenge Certificates won under All Rounders and Middle of the Road  judges, for the serious  enthusiast reduce the value of the title CHAMPION.   Middle of the Road judges are still the people who do not know right from wrong.

4.  Crufts is just another Championship Show and not the be all and end all.

Mackenzie

Spot on gsm44, especially as she was his handler when he went BEST IN SHOW at the WORLD SHOW in Dortmund!!
Where apparently the Crufts judge had seen him at that show and had alledgedly told someone he looked stunning and was well deserved of the win. No-one expected the World Sieger to come to Crufts and the promises made to others  beforehand were obviously too strong to break. Though no taking it away from the Pastoral winner that year he was an exceptional specimen, but Zamp should have won the group or made group 2 at least but the handler was blamed instead, Ludicrous and both insulting and upsetting for a 14yr old, I say shame on any judge for attacking a Junior Handler in such a way.
Regards
Sue

ps yes sorry the winner of Pastoral Group was Res BIS that year and not BIS as previously stated.
