I sure hope someone can rescue that beautiful boy. I don't even live in TX so I can be of no help physically, but will be happy to help financially.

I heard that if the heartworm infestation is too severe the only option is to give the dog HW medication to slowly kill them. If typical treatment is rendered it may kill a dog with a bad case of HW. Char

well, I had a rott bitch given to me about 10 years ago, she had a pretty bad infestation of HW's but at the time we couldn't afford the treatment (its gotten some cheaper nowadays).  the vet told us to give her monthly doses of ivemectrin like we did the other dogs, we tested her again a year after having her and doing the dosing of ivemectrin and she came back nagative and free of HW's.

I guess I should have also included my contact information if anyone is interested in him, thanks for the pm's already! I have called and placed a hold on him, hopefully we can find somewhere for him to go! :-)

IN regards to the heartworms, if he is a light positive it is fine to leave him on heartgard.  The adult worms will eventually die off but if he has a heavier infestation, he really does need to be treated.  Treatment involves 2 doses of immiticide over the course of 2 days, they are deep muscle injections.  Then crate rest for 4 weeks.  Typical costs are $700-$1000 at most vets, I can get it done for around $200.

zukeeper, If I pull him tomorrow or Monday, I would like to make sure that he is neutered before he leaves here as per my rescue contract with the shelter.  I can get this done at my vet for around $65 as I think I mentioned above, I can probably have my vet accept donations for the neuter but will check first if this all pans out.  Just have to make sure he has somewhere to go asap and doesn't get stuck here.

Let me know your vets address to I can send a check asap.  I can send $50.00 just don't tell my husband. lol   I hope he finds a good home.  I hate to see a gsd in a shelter, they do not do well in kennels.  I wish I could send more but I can't work I have to care for my mom w/dementia.  I lost my personal dog, Katie, in January, she was 12+ and she was part of my life since she was 7wks old.  From the moment I brought her home she was my dog, if I left the room she would stop playing w/my husband and find me.  I miss her so much and I would like to make that donation in her honor.  keep me posted.

If no one has been able to take this beautiful boy in,I will be willing to do so. I cannot afford the treatment but it looks like there are plenty of good people out there willing to contribute to that. I do rescues on my own and live out in the country.I have rescues I would love to adopt out myself. But this boy,oh no,he would have to stay. I have a female GSD that I rescued about 5 yrs ago and I love her to pieces as she loves me back the same way.A GSD is one of my 2 favorite large breed dogs. My girl is also a sable but cream with sable, not nearly as dark as this boy.So if you still need a willing home for him,I am raising my hand. OMG! How did such a gorgeous boy end up in the pound and worse,no one adopted him?!! Please email and I will give you my phone number in a private email.
Thanks!
Pat

I swear I've seen this boy listed in a shelter down south before!  I sure hope he doesn't keep ending up in shelters.
