Welcome Bev - I hope you will find much to enjoy here on the PDB. Our last GSD was a longcoat, he looked a lot like Zisso. He will always be my heart dog, and seeing yours brought a tear to my eye..... It sounds like Zisso has found a wonderful home with you - have a happy life together!

awwww AnjaBlue...that made me wanna give you a big ol hug..I know how hard it is to miss one we love.

Jerry and luvedmdogs..thanks for the welcome also

So I have a question for you all. Being a newbie here and really to GSD's altogether, I am really curious about just what his pedigree looks like to others ..to me it is just (please don't get mad with me here) a bunch of fancy names with letters and stuff that I assume mean titles. I would Love love love it if someone could give me an idea if his pedigree is worth 2 wooden nickles

Thanks!

Bev, Zisso is  what we call German showline - some of his immediate relatives were born here, but of German parents. If you can find his Mom's pedigree that would give us more info, but I would expect it to be very similar. He should excel in obedience! And if you have the time or interest, he'd probably also do well in Agility or Rally.  I think the biggest challenge you will have with him is dealing with his coat - as you found out, all that hair needs a lot of grooming!

And thanks - I'll take the virtual hug!

Since first joining this site, I have learned sooooo much, albeit not from here, sorry to say. I still appreciate the help I got from this thread. While in my beginning a few months ago I was not planning on going for any titles, we are now joining a Schutzhund club this weekend!! I have been to meet them and observe and have been bitten :) It looks like Great fun and Great experience.

I have also been dealing with a very sensitive tummy with my boy. Seems just about everything I feed him, other than his kibble and bioled chicken and rice, upsets his tummy and gives him diarrhea. So in training his treats will be boiled chicken. Last but not least, he apparently has allergies~vet says probably to pollen. This is the 1st dog I have ever had with either of thses issues, so it has been a learning experience! Of course, every day we learn something new :) My bond with Zisso has gotten much stronger, he listens much better to me, and is really starting to get into our daily routine. He has now been with me for 3 months, and while I know we still have a long way to go, I feel that we are getting on track to a happy, (hopefully) healthy long life together!
