Like Mystere said, whatever works for the individual and the dog.  Doesn't matter whether its a ball, tug, ring, toy, if it works, - it's all good!

Also, keep in mind that with the hard balls, at the "just right" angle, with the "right" dog, on the wrong day, have snapped a canine. But, heck, dogs have snapped or cracked a canine on just about everything and every way imaginable. Stil, I try to reduce the odds or evn flukes.

        I use the ball for building drive, positioning and reward. Here's a video of my young dog on slippery floors.
