Very interesting photos! I never owned a sable but always heard they got darker as they aged, what a beautiful girl you have! We have two long-coats and as pups our female was very dark colored as she aged she lost alot of that and lightened up a good bit. Her light colored tan as a pup turned into red just shows you never know what you're getting! I always like surprises! Though I wish I would have waited to send in my girls AKC papers I put her in as Black/Tan and she's really Black/Red oh well! Our male didn't change much at all for his coloring stayed black and didn't lighten up at all. Is this the norm with Sables light as pups and darken up as adults? What if the pup is very dark colored any chance of lossing that?
Again what a cutie!
Amy

Thanks a lot muttlover :-) I have had sables before but they never looked as light as she did when she was a pup. I was getting worried that she was going to be very light. She however is the lightest of that litter. Sables are kind of light depending on the pup and they always have a black skunk mark going down their back to the end of their tail. 9 times out of 10 they will get darker, but you just never know. Askia's sister Anka was a little dark as a pup but now she is a black sable. If their dark as pups I don't think you would lose that. I think they would just get darker as they get older, but again you just never really know with sables. All of Askia's siblings got darker as they got older, and they were dark as pups.
gsdfanatic, I will try that. Yes there are red x's in the boxes. Hopefully it will work for me!!!

Here's how Star has changed...
Around 8 weeks:
At 12 weeks, the day I brought her home:
A couple of months ago, playing with my roomie's 5 lb. mutt-from-hell:
If I'd been more experienced, I would have noticed how badly her black pigment was fading, and realized I was going to wind up with a bitch with poor pigment. Ah, well, she's not as bad as some I've seen advertised on the PDB....
GSDfanatic, when I click on 'properties' for your photos, they do NOT say 'jpg', therefore they did not load as photos....therefore we cannot SEE them!
It should say something like this: http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/userfiles/Star%20at%208%20weeks(1).jpg

I apologize. I will try to see what is wrong but Kelly, I love your pics! They were what I was referring to also.
Thank you all for trying to look. I'll look into what is wrong with mine.

Thanks gsdfanatic :-) She sure has changed her colors!!! I'm glad I'm not the only one that can't see your photo's, b/c I was getting worried, hehe!!!
Sunsilver she is a gorgeous girl!!! You can tell that her black did fade in the 2nd photo, but non the less she is gorgeous!!!

sunsilver,
Thanks for your help. I do have the jpg in the image code so, not certain what is wrong. I went back and added the image code to each pic but, since I can see the pics fine from mine, I cannot tell what everyone else is getting. Not certain what I'm doing wrong but, I'll fiddle.
Your Star is a very pretty girl regardless of less pigment. I once rescued a girl that was very dark from a shelter only to have her become a cream and grey color when finished. She was still a very sweet girl nonetheless.

Thanks, Kelly, and GSDfanatic. She has a very pretty, femine face, but very large 'kite' ears, which tend to be a bit 'friendly' (they wave at people as she trots!)
GSDfanatic, I will PM you with some more help on the pics. Don't want to clutter up the thread!
