Know this scum of the earth,

I will put it all back and life will go on.   I may change the name to keep it from most of you since someone out there is not to be trusted.

I wonder what OLi would do if someone really went to work on his files.   I would imagine he'd be as pissed as I am right now. Only it would cost him money !!

I'm outa here for now..

Some people are not worth getting too damned upset with because they can't help being the scum of the earth, they were born that way from scum bloodlines.

And at Christmas time !!    I feel sorry for them.

Brent.

IP addys will not do a thing. The IP can be three peoples at the same time and the last time Oli posted them fights broke out here because   5 people , who we all know idividually has other people same IP..doesnt work.  A person with a laptop, can go all over town and log in and have numerous IP addys..NOT very good idea.

I suggest every member of the board, when they  sign up , give a legit drivers license, or an Legal ID number , which all of us have to possess to live in this country, and when your account is opened  , he keeps it in the private entry and it is checked at times known only to him and he will know who is registered. Nothing the public eye has to see.

Then every poster , will be id'd by Oli or his administrator, and allowed to post. Any alteration of your license number with pic on it, supplied to him,  can be immediately removed.. This again takes away the freedoms of a public forum and is a lot of work for owner.

Pros and Cons with this, of course.  The history on our pedigrees should show who changes a pedigree , I tried to delete my own pedigree one day , and I couldn't do it, so it is someone with lots of skill in computor tech.

YR  While I agree with you about the IP addressed I do NOT agree re the requirement for identificaion. If hackers can break into the DOD, ATT and the like I think Oli's server would be a breeze and I for one am not willing to submit information which is just an invite to identity theft.

A suggestion if I may which I think would be a whole lot easier and while it might take a bit more of Oli's time it would take less "vetting"  than ids and keeping them secure. It would also go a long way to establish the long term security of the board.  The idea is this. Have a mechanism to "lock" a dog's 3 generation pedigree where the only changes could be made by Oli ( or a designated DB member) AND/or  the original poster. The downside I see are losing the ability to correct or add additional information about a dog  which has been a valuable resource on this site. Perhaps this could be handled thru the comment section or have an additional link for "updated info" which Oli or the OP could add as time permits and then delete from the updated info section. At worst it would still be there under updated info. The other possible downside would be people "locking" incorrect pedigrees ( of which there are many on this board but those w/o a historical perspective in the breed often do not realize). Again the updated info section gives us a way to notate the inaccuracies.

The upside is over time the db should become a whole lot more accurate and definitely more secure which will bring more people to use it. So I think the investment in time might be worth it.

While we are suggesting changes, there is one more that I would like to make.  Oli I have always loved the progeny pictures feature because it is a easy way to capture a picture of type and consistency produced. However on the regular progeny listing I am NOT a fan of having picutures. It makes the downloading take longer esp on popular dogs and doesn't add anything you can not get using the progeny picture feature. I also liked the old listing which numbered progeny. Quick reminder of how many produced and easy to tell how many in litter. Instead of picture (a simple checkmark could indicate picture available if you wanted) I would love you to find a way to show the titles and/or hip/elbow status of progeny.  Again would make for a way to check production and consistency. I like having the reg number 'cause gives you an idea what part of the universe the dog probably is. On the progeny page individual dog listings I don't really see the need for 5 generation link or picture progeny link since you can still access them thru the dog's individual page. For research purposed I do like having the link to their progeny listing but perhaps it could be grayed out and inactive if they have no progeny?  Nothing like having a long Christmas wish list :)). Thanks Oli for this wonderful db and all your hardwork.  We do really appreciate it.  I'm an old time pedigree nut and the availability of info that was next to impossible to get or would take weeks and months is just such a joy.  Thank you. Thank you.

Changes to your pages could be password protected.  And the delete option should be removed completely.

Its not rocket science and its not a hacker .   Its one of the members.

And it could be your dogs page next !!

I am not good with computers, how is it someone can mess with another persons pedigree

Sorry Two Moons to here about it,

A very nasty piece of work is the one who has done this it is wrong and there has to be something to stop this, cannot the owner of this site somehow  track the culprit otherwise we are all at risk

Steve,

You hit the nail on the head, we are all at risk !!

You have the ability to update your page when you are logged in, there is a tracking mechanism in place but its useless.

I don't know if there is a history on the deletions.    Anyone can do it to anyone elses page just as their own.

My e-mail keeps coming back from Oli un-delivered, thats strange .

This problem is fixable at Oli's end with password controls.

If his database is not safe from tampering he could lose a lot of hard work and maybe a website.

Merely Disappointed At This Time.
