I'm so very sorry to hear that!  Good luck, and just love her and take good care of her.

We had a similar diagnosis with my husbands 10 1/2 year old (at the time) GSD last year right after christmas. We had some exploratory work done for a sudden anal gland problem and a teensy piece of odd looking tissue was sent off for biopsy.. the procedure resulted in a trip to the ER Sat before christmas  .. where he was diagnosed with "retro bulbar adcess"..his whole head, mouth, eye especially was all swollen and extremely painful.. took a number of visits to get it back to normal and the pred was what really helped.... that made me think there was something else going on here

We opted on conservative treatment, he also had spondylosis and quite a bit of trouble from that and sadly we lost him in October, but I truly believe it was not the lympho... he was just having such trouble getting around and he was painful and all the things that go with that.. However, that was almost one year form the diagnosis and the estimates did not give that much time at all... so we were thrilled for that gift

Sorry to be so drawn out but wanted to give some background..... We did the pred and I was able to get him down to 1 20mg 3 times a week.. it makes them very week andhe was having accidents and totally mortified by it all...

We also feed raw which I really think helped tremendously.. he got a huge variety of good wholesome food and never lost his appetite.. he gained a bit actually

We also used acupuncture and chinese herbs and do believe that also helped.....

I started swimming him regularly which he loved and which helped him at least do something, so spending the extra time was also helpful.

Good luck with your dog .... i'm sure you will do the best you can for her

We have a Client at work that is putting 2 of her dogs through Chemo right now.  The dogs seem to be handling it pretty good and we do blood check every week to watch their blood count.

I am so sorry, it really sucks. We are going thru an issue with my dutch shepherd.  During the summer I had noticed small bruising of the skin that would come and go, but she brings it to the field with the helpers, so I just said to myself just watch and see what happens. In mid November I noticed she had pooling of blood in her eye, this is not normal, you know me rush her in. She had a platelet count of 8,000. This thombocytopenia level means spontaneous bleed any moment. She is nine, the best dog, does everything, was still training twice per week, never put a foot wrong. We gave her fresh platelets, started on high dose prednisone, had to add azathioprine, but we are up to 58,000 and climbing slowly.  Yes because of the Pred there is lots of drinking, lots of urination  and her brain thinks she is hungry all the time even when she just ate. Can you just imagine a high drive female that is hungry all the time. We do know what the outcome is going to be and yes our household had been shedding many tears, but do you know that each day is one more day that we get to spend with a great dog. Keep everything in perspective on the quality of life and try to relax and enjoy each moment. I hope this helps.

This maybe a GSD board, however, most of us own other breeds also. There was a thread not to long ago about the other dogs in the family. It is ok we love them all. I know your family will be hurting, so sorry.
