I would also recommend Jim Hill, Windmor Kennels and Debbie Zappia from Olgameister Kennels. All are excellent and have competed with their own HOT dogs at very high levels. For American breeders they come to mind instantly as people I would consider getting a dog from. Eichenluft Kennels has certainly produced very nice dogs. I know you research pedigrees; so decide what you want, a nice pet that you can title at club trials or something to go further with? Look at some nice GSD's and find a "style" that you like based on structure and temperment. Then narrow down your choices and start from there. I would check out video's from the Nationals, BSP and WUSV. See what dogs interest you. I know the dogs that I like but my taste may different from yours. You are in a little bit of a tight bind because the club your at has more nice Mals and Bouviers than serious working GSD's to look at and work.
I also like Maineiche Kennels in Germany and Vom Emsbogen. But there are many excellent kennels here and in Europe to choose from.
Good Luck,
Jim

My vote is with http://k9imports.com/index.html
I could not be happier with the pup selected for us by Gabor. She is everything advertised, and then some.

I 2nd Gabor and Sue, they seem like exceptional breeders. I'll also add to the list:
Geistwasser- Bill Kulla
Wildhaus- Chris & Tim Wild
Triton- Trish Campbell
Tyson- Randy Tyson

WILDHAUS????? What is the basis for that recomendation? The hospitality?

Historically? Don't forget Witmar-Tyson and Haus Ledda. Both have won UScA Breeder of the Year awards. No telling how many dogs from their breedings have earned titles, show ratings, Korung, nor how many people they have respectively "sheperded" into the sport... and they are STILL AT IT!

If I only knew a 10th of the things Anne Kent from AdlerStein knows about bloodlines , I'd go crazy. Her kennels, which my S/o visited to kennel our dogs, "could be eaten off of". Don't know about her reputation or if she has one, other than "great dogs". Our experience was great.
Pia Blackwell knows a thing or a thousand about Shepherds, and has been in the sport forever. Make sure you drop by Pia's...she does also get involved in Showlines, but certainly has a strong working dog bent. She's also one of the most hospitable people around...
Now let's talk about Sportwaffen.
Nate has this knack of foregoing a pure point dog for a "real" dog.
Stuka is generally picked as "Helper's choice" in Schutzhund trials. Having been there, We've seen why. That dog is a hard beast. Can keep working until the cows come home.
His other stud, Cain, was not something we thought we'd be interested in - we had heard from others that he was "unbelievably hard", and had put a hurt on some. Through an interesting and unexpected turn of events, we ended up breeding our girl to Cain, who wouldn't accept Stuka.
The result on our pups? Here's a sampling...
Christine Sohnberg / Gert Vandermissen: "Perfect Dog. Beautiful drives. Very, very hard".
Bernard Flinks: "Super Dog. I like a thinking dog with a clear head. I would take that dog on patrol any day and feed him in my kennel. "
"Now the girl. The girl is absolutely amazing. There is a very small percentage of dogs, maybe 5 percent, maybe more, who can automatically switch between prey and defense drive as needed. Very hard bite. I would buy that dog right now. If you want to sell that dog, I buy it right now - I'll buy it anytime." :)
That's the kind of output we got from Sportwaffen. Very hospitable, knowledgeable, great bloodlines, knows both Czech/Slovak, DDR and German lines..and Nate couldn't be easier to work with.

What's wrong with Wild Haus? I'd put them in my top ten for sure. Chris knows a good deal about GSDs, and has some nice dogs.

Nothing wrong with Wild Haus - anyone who badmouths a breeder who works and titles their own dogs should not have a problem with the breeder unless it's a personal one.
