BEETREE You from around there? Sh*t you from my neck of the woods :) lol Darien has one (well not really but most owners walk their dogs off leash, actually quite nice park and my dogs always enjoy walk overe there, most owners have good behave dogs so if they run into eachothere there never is a problem. :)

I really like Trish King's video presentation on Dog Park Pitfalls to educate people about the good and bad. Most people don't know enough about dog behavior to understand what is going on, or lazy people with no control over their own dog peer pressure others into thinking it's ok for the dogs to behave that way.
We have a lot of dog parks here, but I don't take my dogs. But I have the option of dog daycare (my own) where the dogs are screened and controlled, not everyone has that option.
I WOULD use a public outdoor dog run though, like a tennis court set up, where you can "use" an area privately for a turn!

Thanks for all your comments and links. I personally feel that a SchH prospect does not benefit from having his butt kicked by any dog of any age. Your comments and links are most helpful.

Snaiper,
Yes, I'm here in Fairfield County, though I grew up in New Haven County. So we are neighbors! How nice.
Those Westporter's are fierce defenders of their dog park! Where there is money, there will be dogs allowed! I used to work in Stamford (MLPFS), and Westport years ago, thank goodness I don't have to battle the traffic nightmare anymore. I imagine the Darien park would be quite nice as well, it certainly helps to have a certain well-heeled public who want to keep their amenities clean and safe.
I used to ride horses in Eisenhower Park, waaayyyyy, back when, when no one even heard of the term, "Dog park" as leash laws weren't what they are today.

Beetree did you notice that in our area almost everyone loves GSD lol I have people stoping on a busy road just to ask me about my lol hahahaaha. Parents and kids usually run towards not away. lol
And is funny how almost everyone I met either had one, want one, or had one and is just wating for the right time to get another one. :)
Recently in Stamford I see more and more of GSD's but I still think I am the only one with working line only lol :)

Snaiper,
Yes, I do notice the popularity of the GSD in our area! Today there are 4 separate ads for GSD puppies, in the papers as I type. Also, within a mile of my home, I have counted at least three other GSD's I have seen in yards or being walked. One, right behind my house I feel sorry for, because he seems to spend his life chained to a dog house. Every so often he and my boy have conversations in the backyard with each other. Every morning when I put my kid on the bus, my dog Mojo, sits and waves to all the kids on the bus, they look forward to his waves, as I see all their little faces smiling and waving back to him!
I tried to watch a working dog trial last year, but no one here would tell me where it was! LOL I checked the working dog website and it was supposed to be in Easton somewhere, but we never found it... we only found apple cider.

Can't say I've had great success with mine in dog parks. She gets so overwhemed with the curious dogs coming in for a sniff, gets aggressively defensive, but she's okay interacting and playing with nice puppies one-on-one (and not in the house--she's Miss Protective!). So she's had good experiences with dogs as well as not so good, and I don't plan on taking her to a park ever again. Sensory overload! Hopefully enough time will pass by where she forgets her negative experiences in favor of only the good ones where I have total control over the situation. She's young yet
