Snaiper if it makes you feel any better I too tried a different brand than frontline and it didn't work. First time I ever had a dog get ticks ever in my life. It started with one on my younger male, then about 3 weeks later I found 2 on my bitch and shortly after that I found 2 more on my older male. All were engorged. Since then I will only use Frontline and guess what...haven't seen a tick ever since. Since my sister in law is a vet tech she brings me home the antibiotics just to be on the safe side. The first time I ever saw a tick on my dog I'd never seen one before and I got paranoid, took the dog to the vet after hours and it took her all of about 30 seconds to pull the tick off and another 30 seconds to treat him. She was nice enough to show me what to do if I ever have it happen again to save myself the time and money of taking him in. Now I think I'm a pro at removing the little suckers. I'm sure your dog will be fine.

Lymes Disease is not carried by the Brown Dog Tick, only by the Red Deer tick. Dogs can pick up deer ticks but they are far less common than dog ticks, so don't panic just because you find a tick on your dog.

I had two :) one looked like a dear tick the other one was just a dog tick lol so no worry talk to my vet he said lets wait three weeks and we do a test for lyme see where we at :) lol he said it will be 50/50 chance, so not to stress too much about it.

Yeah funky my total package :) my new baby, that is why I am extra concern :) lol, I was impressed how well she did when I was removing it and one was really hard to do so I had to dig in pretty deep to get everything out, she like didn't care at all. LoL she was just focused at my pap’s dachshund and how to tackle him lol. Got to love that dog :).

Do ticks die when the weather gets cold like fleas?

by snajper69 on 11 October 2008 - 17:10
Yes agar, but it has to be under 0C for a week or so and stil they might survive.
Usually few inches of snow will do the trick :).
CT, PA, and I think FL are the one that have bigest problem with tick and Lyme. I found some data, and it dose not look good.

oh great, I live in PA. lol I guess it's just safe to treat the dogs all year round. The first time I saw an engorged tick I totally freaked out. When I saw the nasty bugger in the container the vet put it in I was totally grossed out. lol
