We have long joked that my male GSD bred to my best friend's female red doberman would produce the ugliest puppies with the best working ability imaginable (both were hard-core workers for us).
Both died over the summer within a month of each other (he was 5, she was 4) of unrelated, ungenetic causes. So - my theory is that they are producing really ugly, bad ass working dogs wherever it is that dogs go after death. :)
I realize that is probably totally unhelpful - but your post made me cry and I had to share...

LoL. Yeah that was my problem every time I would imagine GSDxDob I was almost always sure it would look ugly :) what I would love to see was gsd with dobe coat lol hahahaha :)
Thanks two moon that is very good point it would take a long time to come out with anything acceptable.

Go to your local city pound and you can see as many as you choose. Especially where there are junk yards in the area. As with any mixed breed, some have the quality of one parent and the next pup has more qualities of the other but typically 50 to 70 pounds, marked like a Dobe and hair mixed between the two but I have seen smooth coats.

I have not seen a cross of the two, but having had numerous dobe's growing up I can attest that the hair of a dobe is much more difficult to vacuum then a gsd. I swear they have barbs on them that make the hair stick to everything. I love both breeds for different reasons.

There are GSD's with short coat's but hair is hair no matter how you cut it... I let mine in and have to change the bag in the vaccume each time I use it.

I've seen quite a few of them come thru the Vet's office... as well as other crosses. Don't recommend the combination really. The more handsome crosses were an Akita/Shepherd cross and a Siberian/Shepherd cross. But the absolute most impressive cross I've seen was not with a Shepherd, it was a Great Dane/Rodesian Ridgeback cross. color was a reverse Harliquin, natural ears, noble, handsome dog, not quite as large as a Dane, but very large.
Again I don't recommend combining breeds... but saw them while working for a Vet.
