Hi Snajper - no, what I meant to say is that your puppy doesn't need bone at every meal (but does need protein) - the idea that puppies need extra calcium has been debunked, at least by the person I have always relied upon for nutritional information.... here is her website, and a couple of articles about raw feeding for puppies which you might want to check out.

Not everything in these articles will apply to your situation (skip the stuff about weaning and seniors), but it will give you some idea of what it's all about. (Of course if you only plan to give the mix occasionally, and still continue with your kibble or whatever, then go for it. Just remember that kibble has calcium in it too...)

I have been feeding Oma's Pride for close to 3 years to my adult dogs and weaned a litter of pups on it, I like it so much that I became a distributor this last spring. I feed the mixes, performance dog, tripe, chicken and duck neck bones along with the marrow bones as a treat. I have fed a number of raw diets and what I am most impressed with in Oma's is the consistency in the quality of their product. I also supplement with B-Naturals daliy blend, salmon and olive oil, yogurt and their fruit mix. Variety is the key to a balanced raw diet!

Just my .02 worth, LOL...

Great selection of foods but some of the prices are outragous!

I can get chicken backs & necks, 40lbs in Boston ( and im sure at any large city) for under $9.00 per box. The same with turkey necks. A 30lb box for under $10.00. rabbit is only $5.99 lb. Even my local butcher shop(im in maine) only charges $17.00 for 40lbs of backs or neck, which i thought was high. I can get gizzards for around $29.00 for 40lbs. Or at the grocery store for about 75 cents per lb. same with kidneys, liver and hearts.

If your lucky enough to live out in the country, its not hard to find a butcher who will give away cow, lamb or pig tonge, hearts, kidneys and livers. Even green tripe. It cost them to have it removed so most are more then willing to let u take it away.

Im not knocking Oma's but I have too many dogs and would go broke. So I take the ride every 3 months and stock up.

Im also lucky enough (tho not every one would think so...lol) to live in the country and raise some animals for us and the dogs. Our butcher even gives up back the lamb & pigs heads, cut in two and the dogs love it. a bit gross to watch them eat it but its their favorite...YUK

I dream of the day when I only have 1 or 2 dogs to feed and can buy their food in small quanities....
