What do you guys see in the x-ray that suggest Pano or are you going by the symptoms? I thought Pano showed up on x-rays but don't know what to look for.

Zigzag, he's your dog, but I would NOT give him Rimadyl. First off if you make him too comfortable he's going to abuse that leg/s. The idea is to keep him just comfortable enough that he can rest without being in pain, but won't move around too much. Exercise should never be encouraged in a dog with pano. Rimadyl is a very potent drug, it can cause liver damage; it is considered the big gun for pain in dogs and it is way more than you need for a dog with pano. IMO vets don't use good sense when they dispense this drug for anything other than severe pain issues in older dogs. It is never the drug of choice for pano in a puppy. Let him hurt a little; it will benefit him in the long run and the pano will pass quicker if he's quieter than it will if he's more active.
Sometimes pano can be seen on an xray. The long bone/s has a "swirling" appearance. However, most times xrays are not necessry as the condition is pretty much cut and dried in large breed dogs. Most vets will simply make the diagnosis by looking at the symptoms, breed and sex of the dog, the age of onset and if the long bones seem to be painful to the dog when manipulated.

Thank you Blitzen.I forgot to mention that I only give him half a tab twice daily. But I will take your advice and I'll take him off it. And i try to keep him calm but as you know a 6 month old pup very active. I have him on candiea all life stages only has 24% protein .Now what i've read seems like goes from leg to leg this guy just right front leg.Vet says elbows look good .

As blitzen and others have said, off the rimadyl, give a asperin and plenty of rest. You might also consider adding hokamix to his diet. Some breeders swear by it for bone and joint develpment.
Good luck

Well thinking here my pup is 6 months old and been trying to keep him calm,Now isn't this going to effect his developing of his muscles? Any suggestions? I use to let him run with my 10 months old female but playing to rough. So now they go out seprately and the poor boy looking out window whining to get out and play. The softee I am he gets a bone once and awhile to take his mind off it.

Since I've written last thread the limp has gone from right to left leg.Now it's been about 2 weeks since any limping. Is it to early to let him be a pup now?Been keeping him very calm. And thank you blitzen on your advice on taking him off the rimadly.Your advice did make since about covering the pain not fixing it

Steve, I'd just play it by ear. Let him have a little more freedom every day and see what happens. Shifting lameness is the hallmark of pano; I think it's safe to assume that's exactly his problem. Good luck. I know it's hard on you and the puppy to force him to rest.

Ok this might be the stupid question of the day.
My male is now 7 months old and when he goes upstairs he bunny hops up.Is this normal for a dog of this age or should I be concerned? I have been keeping him quiet because of his pano. But lately no limping so he is back to acting like a pup <still no limping>
