If you truly "want sensible opinions" then you should post a thread asking if anyone's ever heard of any problems in the 13 other dogs from which your puppy more closely descends.

Every dog has 8 great-grandparents.  To single out only one of the 8 as the cause of problems?

These problems could come from one, but 3 generations back....well, that's a lot of genes in-between.

Just out of interest have you contacted the breeder of your dog ?

perhaps s/he could enlighten you as to the health problems in past generations.

BTW, i have 2 yasko progeny who are superb temperaments nd show no ailments  atall:)

Hi Tess, yes I could post a question asking about the other 13 dogs from which my dog more closely descends, but  it is not of as much interest to me.  You see I keep hearing about dogs with health problems, and when I look them up, the same dog often appears somewhere on their pedigree .  Don't you find that a coincidence?  Meanwhile, I have yet to hear of illnesses from those other 13 dogs close up on her pedigree.  So you see I have no reason to ask about them.

lilly   their are 14 dogs in the first 3 generations of your pups pedigree it could be from any one two or even three of them or of course none at all as it may not be hereditory

I dont mean to be rude, I am just very concerned about the health of the GS. You say you have two Yasko progeny, and  have no ailments.  Why then, has one of them had a TLI test done. Was this dog showing signs of EPI.  Also the G-Sire of this dog is Zasko Vom Santamar, whom I believe has tested positive for JRD.  I realise that there are a great many dogs in one pedigree, but up he pops again -----Yasko that is.  Or maybe we should all be looking a little further back than Yasko.!!!!

Look at the Motherlines, also, but go further back into the pedigree further 6th and 7th generations back.  That is what I was told by a very wise person who has been in Shepherds since the stoneage.

BRADY BEE-  not rude at all good question

I TLI test all my dogs yearly, I am just very careful, I also run full blood wks  yearly ,and have other tests as well.

He  isn't showing any signs of EPI at all:) you are more than welcome to contact me if you wish to discuss my breeding ethics.

I am also very concerned with the health of our breed and I do the tests to make damn sure that I am not contributing to making the problem worse.

I have just spent over £800 on tests for my boy and when the bank balance recovers i will test for other things like JRD thyroid, eyes, heart etc. etc. not because I have got a problem in my lines but to prove I haven't.

also if anything did show up I will not breed and not lift the endorsements on the other pups in that litter. and inform all the owners of siblings of the problem

the fact is i want to know.

if more breeders tested their dogs Like I do we wouldn't have such a huge problem in the first place,

Kind regards Tracie.

I am relieved you didnt think I was beeing rude. Many would have bashed me for being so "nosey" Its a refreshing change to come across someone who is not only  health testing, but MORE IMPORTANTLY  if these tests proved positive, would not breed from the animal. AND WOULD INFORM ALL THE OWNERS OF SIBLINGS OF THE PROBLEM.  We need more like you.   Pity not everyone cares so much about  our wonderfull breed which IMHO is being slowly but surely ruined.

I WOULD DEFINATELY BE TESTING FOR JRD,NOW WE HAVE SASKO VOM SANTIMAR A CARRIER. THE SAD THING IS THIS DOG WAS USED QUITE BIT,THINK OF ALL THOSE POOR PET OWNWERS,WORRY,CONSIDERABLE EXPENSE,LOSING CHERISHED PETS, SO SAD TIGERMOUSE DON'T YOU THINK? IF ONLY THE BREEDERS HAD DONE ENOUGH HOMEWORK WE MAY HAVE PREVENTED A LOT OF THIS.  OH! AND HERE'S A THOUGHT THE PUPPY CONTRACTS I ALWAYS  SIGN,WITH BREEDING RESTRICTIONS, IS NOT WORTH THE PAPER IT IS WRITTEN ON IF SOMEONE IS DETERMINED TO BREED. HAVE WE HEARD OF P.P.REG, AND D.L.REG,TWICE IN THE PAST I HAVE HAD OWNERS USE THESE CLUBS!!!!.NOW THESE TWO CLUBS WILL REG.ANYTHING. LIZ
