Oh MY oh MY :  Yes , Powerhaus,,,the Busy Bee,,,,famous then for the homade pies...Many a night spent there after Texas Christian endeavor meetings at Arcadia Christian church, near Runge Park,,,Fred Miller our Pastor... Busy Bee is no more, even though Santa Fe has grown...lots of new stuff there...We used Jack Brooks park for our Dog training for years , and many hours with Galveston County Sheriff deputies Jimmy Macicek and Hal Burrows, chief K9 officer of North County....We owned Farrells Garage on the corner of I-45 and Main st. in Lamarque...so you probably passed right by me many times..

My ole stomping grounds...Heith lives with a long time friend on Casey Rd, who housed him back when his foot got cut off at Dunn Heat Exchangers in Texas city....now hes back there to get UTMB services since Workmans comp . fell on its nasty face...lifetime medical on an mangled foot falls back on our sorry senators and congress in Texas and the inability to enforce insurance companies to abide by their rullings...another whole story...

Clifton by the Sea, in Bay Cliff,  my most favorite sea food eating place...my truck knew the way there every Saturday night till it burned down,,but was rebuilt after I moved here, to east Texas.  It and the Happy Buddha in Galveston  and Mexican Village in Alvin, my three eating places that I own a half interest in....lol...wish...!

My kids went to the Christian Acadamy in Texas City until 9th grade...Then LaMarque HIgh till their dad died , then Heith dropped out of school and MY daughter and I moved to Conroe where she graduated with a 4.0...change in the environment and the memories of her dad who never got to see her as a cheerleader , Miss EAST TEXAS usa  OR  any of her achievements...was hard on two kids who had a super dad for their hero..We probably know a few same people..but I was more a home body then and stayed in local organizations of Lm and texas city...

Glasin Chiropracter in Santa Fe is Rawlene Glasin ,who is a friend of mine , also...We were thrown together because I dated her Dr. Husband and she came to my rescue...haa haa haa

Aww, darn shame to hear that the Bussy B is gone!  They were known for their pies and they NEVER had soap in the bathrooms!  LOL!  We just lived up the HW 646 about 2 miles from that biker bar at the end.  Have eaten at Cliftons by the Bay MANY MANY times.  Our favorite place closed down though, Pier 19 in Galveston.  We morned it's passing for a long time!  Another of our favorites is Rogers Malt Shop in Dickinson off HW 3 and I liked to go to T-Bone Toms in Kemah when the weather was nice and the band was playing!  Another place I really liked was the Jalepino (sp?) Tree in Webster but that has been gone for a long time.

Another thing we like to do is kind of silly but we do like to go ride the Ferry from Galveston to Chrystal Beach, it is the most fun you could have for free!

My brother-in-law pastored a small church in Dickinson, was Bayou Baptist Church, across the street a little from Rogers malt shop.

My father-in-law is retired from a refinery in Texas City.

These were the good old days!  I wouldn't mind moving back someday.

My family has 2 homes on the bay on Port Bolivar...we are basically kissing those good bye. :(  We are about an hour North of Houston but looks like directly in the path of the storm.  Our property is high enough that we shouldn't have to worry about flooding...wind damage from misc. flying objects and falling trees concerns me more.  We are bringing in all the kennel dogs and crating them...just hope they all stay clean in their crates! :)

Yes, but the storm hasnt done all the damage..LaMarque, where I graduated Fun '61, has gone to the DOGS>> homes are not kept, once nice neighborhoods are shantie shacks, roads not kept,,city has no resources left, all money used wrong..Most home grown business;s all gone.... lots grown up with weeds everywhere along 1765, and buildings left standing boarded up and nothing done about it...sad... LaMarque was known for its Football team and it still is high in the ranks today...amazing..one of my classmates is Secretary for the Head Coach and she is from a long time family of that town , having brothers in the law enforcement who played football and all family are either in teaching or law... My Dads whole family were American Oil employees back to his Dad in Illinois and transferred him to Texas city , where he was burnt to a crisp in an explosion of the pump house , where he turned the last valve to save American oil of Texas city, and lost his life , and never a dime paid to my mom , because she signed a paper that night...never anyone in our family lent a hand to stop her.. My daughter dated Clay Livergood from Santa Fe, whos dad owned City Aligning , in Tc. Clay play football for Santa Fe...My whole life was there in that area and after my husband died, I sold the business and moved to East Texas, along with hundreds of other Galvestonians... My partner, who is a member of USA and a member of a houston club, lives in Galveston , and has run to FOrt worth to her sons..has probably lost her downstairs part of their home about 50 times in the last 29 years. Water up to the window sills so many time you cant even count...They have good insurance and believeably has never canceled them...but they pay thru the nose for it. Chris owns Strommen painting and inherited it from his dad, so they will never leave the area..but I ran and will never go back except to visit...

Hi Rose,

I've been to Padre Island, and New Orleans, and I did lived for a time in south Florida.

It's nice to be near the sea but I would hate hurricane's and leaving my home not knowing if it would be there when I returned.   I'd hate waiting for the government to tell me when and if I could even return at all.    At least here with a tornado's I can stay with my home.

I was watching the new's looking at the line's of traffic leaving the coast bumper to bumper..   I'd hate to be that traffic jamb.

I look at the radar site everyday, you can also see an enhanced infra red radar that's even more detailed.  It's a big storm for sure.

You be safe and I hope everyone stay's safe.

Brent.
