I am very sorry for D-dog and his family. I agree this sounds like damage from the attack he sustained. I have search and rescue dogs and have posted signs on all sides of my fenced yard to inform OTHERS, it is a FELONY to endanger, harm and/or cause death to any working dog. Of course that is of little use after the fact for this poor dog and his family. I hope they find the person who did this and prosecute them. More important I hope that D-dog is able to heal 100% and regain his abilities to continue as a working dog.

I only have a second. I have to head back over there but I wanted to update you.
First -- a thank you to you all for all the support. I'll pass your thoughts and good wishes on to Marlene.
It looks like it was the new neighbors (next store and the unsavory type) who did this. Her husband is a police officer and they are having cameras installed today if possible.
D-ster is still at the vet under observation. No word yet on his condition. They open at 9:00 a.m.

Very sorry, this has happened. I would like to know when enough is going to be enough. When are our laws going to defend the innocent and jail the ones who do harm, and leave them there.

Good news! D'-ster will be ok! He is here with me right now because both M & T have to work today and tomorrow and is snoozing by the sofa after going around checking the house of course. LOL. His behavior was a result of the injuries. There was minor brain swelling (vet said he'd seen much worse) and swelling and huge contusions to the head, neck and shoulder areas. He's alert and has complete recall of all his commands and is moving (slowly) but moving without any signs of instability. He had a small meal and ate it with great enthusiasm. There is great hope that he'll still be able to scent cadaver and recall that training too.
Marlene and Ted say thank you to you all for everything. They're coming for dinner and to spend time observing him tonight. I'll show them this thread then.
Me -- I'm going to go get some much needed sleep.

Very good news! So happy he is going to be alright. Any more news on the person(s) that may have done this to him?

Thank you for the update. I'm so glad he is doing well, but MAN that was just too close for comfort. It could have easily been a real tragedy. I hope they get the dirty bastids.

M & T just left so I have a few minutes to post.
They were a little overwhelmed by the "kindness of strangers" as Marlene put it and thank you all "more than they can say". I know a lot of her tears were relief. I know a lot were from gratitude too after she read the thread.
Y.R. - that might be closer than we think. I'll explain in a second.
Important things first. D'-ster is doing better. He ate a full meal and is continuing to improve. He's moving a little more freely tonight (could be the soft bed LOL) and is drinking fine. Very alert and kind of attempted to run freely while we were out to potty. Stopped by verbal command (you can never do enough training and reinforcement) because right now he's wearing no collar. This (any neck injury) is a great example of why training and reinforcement is so important. It can happen to anyone. He goes back to the vet on Monday to be checked but we're not anticipating anything negative.
Next important -- Ted did not sleep today. He and an electrician friend were installing video cameras at their house. Ted was in his civi's. Electrician was in the house. One of the suspected neighbors came up to the fence while he was on the ladder and whacked the fence with a bat (brand new, how 'bout that) and started yelling at Ted that none of those "f-ing" cameras better be pointed at his house among other things. Ted produced his badge and told "Mr. Neighbor" to mind his own business and put the bat down. Mr. Neighbor starts swinging the bat and yelling "bring it on, MF'er", etc. Long story short, the electrician (smart man, good friend) saw what was happening through the window and called local P.D. Told them officer needed assistance and gave the address then stayed on the line to give the play by play as local P.D. was enroute.
Mr. Neighbor was taken down after local P.D. entered the back yard to take care of him but NOT before running into the house. Naturally, local P.D. followed.
Guess what they found? Three of the four neighbors in the house had warrants including Mr. Neighbor who now has additional charges. The one that had no warrants was arrested too because small amounts of cocaine, marijuana and meth was found in the house. As near as we can tell the 5th occupant hasn't gone back to the house from whatever caused her absence. We're reasonably sure it wasn't a ***gasp*** JOB!
There's still no conclusive evidence that they are the ones that attacked D'-ster with the bat. Some circumstancial but probably not enough.
A lot more is coming to light now that's for sure. I'm hoping and praying that justice will be done. It's wait and see now.
