KariM

Wow my dogs live in the house all of the time when I am home.  Every now and then I'll get tired of tripping over someone so they go out, or when it's really nice I'll put them in the kennel as well.

Even the puppies that are here for some manners live in the house.  Granted they spend a lot more time in the crate in the house, but they all get to hang out on dog beds that cover my entire family room floor.

Sasha has slept on the bed from day one that I brought her home, Jager has just been allowed to sleep out of his crate at night this last month, he used to think 3:00am was PLAY time!  But now he is good, he likes to lay on the bed initially but then goes to his own bed and Sasha stretches out.

Growing up we always had outdoor dogs, and when I live with a friend in FL she had three house dogs including a GSD, an Aussie and a mixed 40 lb mutt, once I realized how much dogs love to be with their people I could never leave a dog to live outside.

I think the bond that I have with my dogs is much better than if I would leave them in the kennel all of the time.  When I am gone they are in a kennel so they don't destroy my yard and are still alive when I get home.

The little boys sleep in their crates at night of course.

I think GSDs enjoying being with their people more than being outside in the backyard.

Primarily inside with me.  There are many times when I crate him or stick him in a run outside simply because i think all of us, 4 or 2 legged need a break from each other every now and again.

Try walking thru a dark house half asleep with a black dog laying wherever he like's..LOL

I do keep one in the house at night sometime's but I don't like to have them in and out so much when the A/C is on, I don't think it's good for them to go in and out from the A/C to 90 degree's.

Then there is the brand new tick bite I have between two toe's that's itching me to death..  Little hitch hiker's !!!

My two are indoor dogs.   My male is in his crate during the day while I'm at work and my female has free reign of the house.   I have a petsitter that comes and lets them out during the day into the fenced in backyard.  Otherwise, they're usually indoors except for when we're playing, doing yard work or exercising them.

I have 5 dogs and at night they are kenneled inside a 60' x 30' shed, where they have separate kennels.

They all have individual walks every morning, we start at 6.30 am and then they are all outside in 150' sq. grass runs where they have trees for shade and sheds for cover. They also have lots of play or training time,

If it is raining or very hot they are inside the shed runs.

During the day time one usually has free run aound the house garden but rarely in the house.

I have four GSD's, one male and three bitches, really bitches....    During the day when I'm at work, two of the females are in their own individual kennels, the other female and the male is in the back yard.  When I am home, they take turns on their couch, in their crates (four huge crates in the family room) or in the front yard.  The females cannot be together but all can play with the male one at a time.   At night the male and one female sleep in my bedroom (along with one of my four house cats), the other two in their crates in the family room.  I do not let any of them have free run of the house when I'm not home.

I see nothing wrong with a dog not being a house dog if it does have enough interaction with their people.

They all live outside in kennels, come in when I want them to and have free time or training time daily. I usually let my puppy out to roam the backyard, while I leave and take her brother to the park to do OB or a long walk. It's up to my daughter to exersize her dog. At least twice a week I run the adults for at least a mile, usually 2. If I had a treadmill I'd run them all daily but the feet can't take that much pavement. We go to club twice a week and have random excursions on weekends to the river , ocean or mountains, maybe even just my friends for a bbq. If my boy does really well at traiing I let him in until I go to bed.

Best of both worlds, they stay where they wanna stay. I have kennels but thats just a option for them and they do use them without been forced to.

My dogs like to be with me be it indoors or outdoors.  But they mostly are indoor dogs.  I have kennels outside under the porch, close to the patio door.  I use them to separate the dogs from time to time for safe keeping when the yard is mowed or I have workers in my home or a female is in heat.  I have also used them to teach pups to be on their own without other dogs or myself, but that is just about it.  When we have those wonderful cool Autumn or Spring days I will put the dogs there because they really should enjoy the beautiful weather while I work.  On the most part though  when I am not home the dogs have the home to protect.  They would not be able to do their job in kennels or crates.  In the yard they would also be useless especially if they were drugged or poisoned.

When I get my own home I think the best set up would bey a gsd inside, along with a corgi or something, and then one or two outside, and everybody else kenneled. I want to have quite a few dogs.
