Blitzen, well said.  How easy it would be to change some of the words from this famous poem to fit the dog world.  BSL, breeders, owners, etc.

"When the Nazis came for the communists,
I remained silent;
I was not a communist.
When they locked up the social democrats,
I remained silent;
I was not a social democrat.
When they came for the trade unionists,
I did not speak out;
I was not a trade unionist.
When they came for the Jews,
I remained silent;
I wasn't a Jew.
And then they came for me
And by that time there was no one left to speak up."
attributed to Pastor Martin Niemöller

The problem with many of the BSL is that they get proposed with little or no warning to the animal owners in the area.  We had one in the little town near us and they were proposing a 2 pet limit.  Did'nt matter if you had 3 goldfish, 2 dogs and a parrot.  The person who had an elephant on their 40 x 60 lot would be in compliance and you were out of luck.  They had proposed that there would be no grandfathering. and yes they had a similar list of dangerous dogs.  Luckily I live in a prdominatly rural area and it got shot down pretty quick.  There was a much more sensible ordinance passed.

Again the problem with many of these ordinances are written in such language that makes them sound sensible and no one will oppose them. Unfortunatly the fine details are often where problem lies with these things.  Whether it is from well intentioned but uniformed sponsors or those who actually have ulterior motives.  We really need to be vigilant in protecting our rights.  In our community there were many who voiced opposition at the meeting and it was rewritten, but our local paper put this ordinance on the front page. How many other cities would an ordinance like this barely get  a mention?

Blitzen ,

Yes it's happening in the cities.    I quit going to Evansville for a night out because I can't smoke in a bar.

Louisville is the same now.  Henderson just enacted a noise ordinance to shut down bar's with live band's.

And California, God you couldn't pay me to live in California, law & ordinance crazy !!

This is all do to the hystaria born of propaganda pushed by shelter's and politition's and people like PETA, special interest's.

At least here where I am now everyone has a coon dog or a beagle and dog sport's (hunting) is a way of life.   Everyone has a big farm dog of one breed or another for home protection and if your dog is running loose causing trouble it get's shot.

It's sorta back woodsie and yes the city is alway's proposing some sort of ordinance,  they want to ban dog's from the city parks, no firearm's on city property (parks), we had a trash recycle fee forced down our throat's, and now they are waging war against an adult book store that's way out on the interstate because it offend's the holy roller's who kringe at the sight of the sign (bill board).

It's not like I don't care, it's just that you have to live in these place's to have a voice in these matter's.  They don't care what I say two or three state's away, I don't vote there.

Instead of so much effort being poured into petition's and lobbiest's the public need's more educating and information, it's a propaganda (information)war.

Election's are coming too and the politiition's listen to the money, I may have to move again some day.

God only know's where.

Brent.

Wrongo! I live in NY and I had a shelter shut down in another state, because of the horrific conditions they kept the dogs in! You have a voice if you make one- if you reman silent, you take your own voice away....

Honestly, I wouldnt have expected you to, from reading your posts :) If you dont care about breed banning, you certainly couldnt care much about the breed....

Marjorie,

Now let's not start being too nasty, you don't have any idea of what I'm all about no matter what you think you have read into my post's.    I'm a bit more complex than you might imagine.

There are bigger thing's going on here in this country than just breed banning, your looking at a leaf and not seeing the tree.

Because of the reality of what's going on, some people might hesitate to register anything for fear of becoming a target and might prefer to stay hidden from the system.   Also breeder's who have problem's would fear losing money if said problem's were public knowledge.

I'm not silent, I just know to choose the battle's I will fight with great care.

It's good that you are such a caring proactive person.

It's not a good time for me to go any further here so I bid you adue.

Brent.
