4Pack so sorry.  I hope you do contact the company and get some results.  O told you last month I gave Diamond another chance to and was going back to ONE.  Done.  Stools are already back to " normal" in just 3 days without the smell and gas.  I will never use it again.

I have a different experience with 2 kinds of Diamond foods I have used for years.   I have a pup on the Large Breed L/R, and 4 adults on the Naturals L/R.   We have smaller stools, and not a bad odor.  When the last recall happened,  my supplier assured me it was found exclusively in lot #'s in the Mid West (I think) .    Dog foods everywhere would soon have recalls in many many brands as we saw that year.  (07?)   Anyway,  I like the suggestion for a necropsy on the rats, and the testing of the food you currently have.    We are always interested in learning which makes the Newest Topics column a winner!   Keep us posted!   Trish and Pack

I read the link on SDA and it sounds nothing like what my rats have suffered from. The bulging eyes was the only similarity. Only one showed signs of any respritory problems, and whats with the hair loss? Non had swollen necks as a huge symptom of SDA includes. One had a huge mass behind her front leg, hardly a gland and the other was just on the side of his mouth, it burst and looked like a canker after. Also this says it runs it's course over 7-10 days like a common cold. My rats have been having issues for 4-6 weeks, no nassal discharge, sneezing or coughing at all.

Anyway, they aren't suffering anymore. I'd like to send the food off to a couple different places. I love how Diamond wants the remaining food in original packaging...Right I'll be sure to send every last kibble to them...NOT! I'll try to call UC Davis tomorrow and see what they suggest I do about the food.

This is the swollen neck/glands of a SDA rat. It looks as if the glands are so swollen the eyes are forced to squint. Compare with the thin necks of mine. I never had any squint. Before they went blind they got a cataract type film ove rthe eyes. Rascal was the only one close to having a fat neck, but he was just a fat rat all around. Not sure why he stayed so chunky when the girls got quite thin. They were all on free feed with muliple treats weekly. I would give them left over crackers or cereal my kids wouldn't eat and apple cores or the ends of bananas, carrots, celery w pb. They loved leftover pasta or egg salad...well pretty much anything.

Please keep us all informed of what you find out about what is toxic in the food.  Could it be some kind of a wheat rust or fungs?  My thoughts are with you and I am sorry that you have had to go through his.
