Are you certain the oil is coming from the bag? I buy food in very large quantities. I once had a delivery that had many bags soiled with what appeared to be motor oil. The distributor denied that it was, but I refused the delivery, called the manufacturer and they sent their district rep to the warehouse and indeed found motor oil had been spilled all over many, many bags.....

Calling the manufacturer, asking about who is distributing this and calling the district rep for the food is a good thing to do to get to the bottom of it.

Yes, the oil is coming out of the seem at the bottom of the bag. It's surprising, since thes bags are heavy plastic, but after two trips to the store I am convinced that the oil is coming from inside.

Well I got a reply on my email to Diamond pet foods today. They asked for the store name and phone number so they can contact them and see what's up. They are supposed to let me know what they find. Well see.

Travel time-

I went to my local feed store today and I purposely went over to check out the TOTW. They did not have any of the Prarie formula on the shelf but I felt the other varieties and they didn't appear to be oily. The shelf where the Prarie variety was missing had a few small oily spots but nothing big at all.

Now I live in Missouri so the food doesn't have to travel as far. I don't know if that would make a difference or not.

Just FYI

I switched my dogs to TOTW (the prairie formula) shortly before this thread started. I just finished my first bag and there was a noticeable grease stain at the bottom of the bag and the kibble at the bottom looked like it just had been soaked in oil. Today I went down to get the dogs' breakfast and sure enough the new bag was leaking oil from the bottom. I'll be contacting the company as well to see what they have to say about it.

Thank goodness, although the problem sucks, I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one that has found this problem. CrashKerry, your not in Oklahoma are you? Just curious as to if we could have been exposed to the same shipment, maybe?

huh.  Interesting - I have been feeding TOTW Prairie for quite some time now - since it first came out in fact - and I buy about 6 bags per month (sell it from here too, to a few clients and my parents for their retired dogs to eat) - and never noticed any problems with oil in the bag, on the kibble or - god forbid - leaking out of the bags.  All have been dry and not oily.

Molly, I am glad to hear that you go through alot of this food and have not came across this problem. At least this doesn't seem to be a widespread problem. I'm hoping this is a one time issue and that after this store recieves a new shipment I too can feed the Prairie formula. I few may think I'm nuts, but I'm telling you these bags that I encountered we just plain nasty.

I've been feeding the pacific stream since the food came out.  Never had any problems with oily food.  Occasionally rotate with the other 2 formulas.  My cats get the feline version.  Last order was 3 wks ago, no oil puddling

I don't feed this but do have a question.  The same question can be applied to many of the foods.

Is the same mill used to produce the food for the entire U.S.?  It may be a specific manufacturing problem at one location.  Hopefully it does not extend beyond one batch and is fixed.
