Fetal Alcohol syndrome, crack babies, exstasy babies, tweaker babies ...... they are brain damaged in the womb ... I won't even go into the plastic baby bottles/canned formula/ADHD (bisphenol-A now banned in Canada)... then the drunks, crack whores and tweakers get to raise them. I am sure this goes on even in Tennessee.

Avoiding areas with public housing projects will no longer spare you as the newest fad is section 8 housing vouchers in single family houses, in many neighborhoods. People who can't sell their houses are now taking the generous rents that Section 8 will guarantee payment on.

Read it and weep..............

I grew up in hardcore New Jersey inner city in the late 40's and 50's. It was paradise compared to what is going on today.... hell on earth.

Matador,

Which religion would you suggest?

I think it's a bit more complicated than that Matador.

But your right about our future.

I'll sacrifice a fresh goat first thing in the morning.

Pharaoh,  bad kid's come from all walks of life.  All economic background's.

Lurkin want's new law's for breeder's and buyer's...  that'll go over well.

And Mac want's a Lynching party..  excellent.

Lurkin you mentioned accountability and responcibility, that make's sense, and it's do-able.

I don't think anyone's gonna blame the dog's for this one.

Moi.

Two Moons said "Pharaoh, bad kid's come from all walks of life. All economic background's."

Yes they do, but there is an overwhelming flood coming from the "Thug Culture" of Gangstas and Wangstas. I have lived and worked in the inner city and ghetto neighborhoods. I have dear friends who are still there. Do you have drive by shootings in your neighborhood? When you go to a nice restaurant, do four or five thugs walk in pointing guns at everyone, empty the cash register then empty the wallets and remove all the jewelry and watches from the patrons of the restaurant? When you walk into the Subway for a sandwich, is there bullet proof glass between you and the food server?

This is way past "bad kids".

It isn't about economics, Michael Vick is not poor. It is not about skin color, it's about culture, specifically THUG LIFE culture.

It;s about little girls getting pregnant while they are high on crack/ice/x/meth or whatever, they are all terratogens as is alcohol. The drug use AKA "Partying"continues throughout the pregnancy, causing more and more damage, that can not be repaired.

The type of "ultra violence" and depraved indifference displayed by the three twisted youth who tortured the beautiful innocent 8 month old puppy was an adrenaline rush. I can tell you that was their idea of having fun. In my heart I believe they are brain damaged and being raised by each other on the streets a la "Lord of the Flies". It is bad and it is going to get a lot worse.

I won't close my eyes and make believe. That will not make it go away. If that worked I would be happy to do so.

Go to you tube and search for Oakland Sideshows. It will be a real eye opener for you.

I hope I don't have to run into this on the interstate freeway 880 that I take to go home from Schutzhund training www.youtube.com/watch  or this on 580 www.youtube.com/watch Just in case you think nobody gets hurt there are people who did not volunteer for this "film" they were driving through and !!!!!!  www.youtube.com/watch or how about the house two cars crashed into, hit the gas line and it exploded at 4AM. The family barely escaped with their lives but their hous was leveled as if there had been a tornado  abclocal.go.com/kgo/story . That incident was not too far from my friends house. They are trapped-who would buy their house? It's another world. Lots of dog fighting too.

I read an article once about laboratory rats being kept in artificially overcrowed environment and they developed abnormal colony behaviour including soiling the nest area, homosexual rape, gang assault and killing of other rats in the colony, cannibalism, sex with baby rats and killing of newborns.

Sound familiar?

I forgot to mention the the increase in the incidence of cancer in the overcrowded rats.  Though not the same article, the link gives an rough overview of the experiment.

Pharaoh,

Your right, and it is also our culture.  All our children are exposed to it in one way or another.  I just meant it's not limited to one group or background.

Kaffir make's a point as well.

Even Matador is correct, unless we change things drasticaly our world is screwed.

I don't have any real answer's that anyone could live with.

Brent.

When we (Baby Boomers and before) were growing up, neighborhoods were like villages: somebody was always watching out. Whatever you did or said was reported to your parents oor grandparents. Doors, even in the inner city, were left unlocked, so kids could come and go during the smmertime. You knew the names of your neighbors and a bit about their lives. Block parties (basically pot lucks for the neighborshood) were common. All of that added up to societal control. The nuts had to contain themselves because they WERE accountable to relatives and neighbors. The family approval, or lack, provided the control. Now, everyone is so spread out and neigghbors so nearly unknown to the people across the street, or two doors down, that the nuts no longer have the societal control from family and neighbors' tacit or explicit (un) approval. Add to that the stresses of our modern, overcrowded society, as Kaffirdog points out, and the implosion is inevitable. I always thought it funny that people had to get licenses (even pass tests) to drive, get a gun, fish, hunt, etc. But,when it comes to the most important activity on Earth, raising childre, we breed at will, whether we have a clue or not. ANY parents with a kid brutalizing animals should be required to know that this is a CLEAR signal that something is wrong with the kid and be forced to address it. Think what names we would never have heard, had Dahmer and Bundy's parents had a clue.

Excellent posts Kaffirdog and Nia.

I am older than most of you and I can concur with what Nia writes as this was also my experience even though I lived in an abusive, one parent family.

We also had neighborhood recreation programs all summer long and after school programs that are now practically non-existent. We had people who were giving of themselves and their time to make a difference in a child's life. There are still some places where a "village" exists, but they are few and far between. There are still people out here who will stop and spend time with a kid, but they too are far and few between. And who wants to coach for example, or run a childrens' choir, when one has to deal with assh--- parents who have their heads in the dark about what is important in life.

There are few who expect anything from kids, let alone excellence in their daily lives. Too many parents have few ethics and are out for themselves so no wonder that the kids suffer. And then kids have kids. The most poignant and sad fact is that in our society we consider it a right to have children, regardless of how screwed up the parent/s may be. It should be absolutely mandatory that one attends courses on child-rearing the second one is pregnant. Yet we fight, as a society, virtually every reasonable effort to promote teaching of sex education, ethical behaviors, parenting skills and there are no consequences for ill behavior, for kids and all too often, even for adults.

I grew up in a situation where my brothers and I were left alone day in, day out, from the time I was 5. Somehow we managed to grow up ethical children. We did not hurt anyone and we did not kill animals. About the worst I ever did was steal some candy from the five and dime store, but I felt so badly about it, because I KNEW it was wrong, that I went back and paid for it the next time I had a nickel.

Sure, once in a while we got into some trouble, but most of it was very, very minor. I don't know where our sense of right and wrong came from because we did not get it at home. I believe a lot of my upbringing actually came from the excellent and caring teachers I had, who spent an hour or more after school trying to talk with me or other kids who hung around and work in their classroom. Now, you are lucky to get any of them to stay at school. And for many, teaching is not teaching, it is about playing a disciplinarian all day. Who would want that job? Not me. I am a teacher.

None the less, we managed somehow to grow up without killing cats and dogs or other children, wanting to beat the shit out of a classmate or thinking about blowing up the school and killing people we did not like. I also believe that there is an innate (genetically derived) sense of right and wrong within people and in some, this sense is damaged because of anoxia at childbirth, parental drugs or alcohol abuse or any variety of neglect and abuse as one grows up. There are many causes and directing resources at the causes is the best prevention. When perpetrators are identified, it is often way too late to save them and save their next victim (who may well be a human being).

Society must recognize when there are troubled kids or adults and step in immediately to do something definitive about it and sooner than later. But we are too busy doing other things and the societal programs necessary to intervene are simply not there because of a view of government that says it should be taken care of on a local level and a lack of funding in most local levels.
