$50 Bissel purchased at Walmart after giving up on a very expensive other brand. I take the Bissel outside, take apart, and hose it completely inside and out, let dry. Been using it for over 2 years. Cheapest, most effective I've ever owned.

Oops, my mistake, I meant to ask for carpet shampoo-er ideas.  I have a Dyson Animal and love it, but since I live near a lake and some low lying areas, muddy dogs and foot prints are a huge issue.  My carpet shampoo-er died and quite frankly couldn't keep up anymore.  Any ideas on shampoo-ers?  I would love to be able to afford a professional to come in once a week but that is out of the question.  And thanks for validating my carpet vacumm choice
