Here in Russia we have the same situatuion as everywhere in the world nowadays: working bloodlines and show bloodlines. So you should watch carefully but we have some ED and HD checking too (reputable kennels).

Bunk!! We have bred some great dogs in the US, too. Oddly enough, from the same bloodlines (sometimes the same dogs) as in Europe. Training is more an issue than finding a good , or the "best" dogs. The US is far too big and spread out for the type of "trianing community" one finds in the much smaller European countries. In USA regions where the clubs have created more of a training community (which includes breeding) you find lots of good dogs performing at high levels, because the training community makes the training available to excell. The New England region is an example. The South East region is also.
