Two Moons

by Two Moons on 09 July 2008 - 16:07

Making money,

I have raised animals of all kinds over the years and have never (made money).   I was always glad if I could just make my feed bill's.   I'm not talking about dog's by the way.   If a person figure's their time along with the expense's there's no way you can say your making money.

You'd be better off selling used car's.   Most people raise animals because they love being around them, working with them, hoping to have the best and being know for that.  And if you break even your lucky.

Walmart make's money,  puppy mills and broker's make money, scammer's must be making some money or they wouldn't risk doing it, oil companies make money, the list goes on.

it's hard to make money at anything these day's unless you have money to start with, or you have a very good printer and you are cranking out your own ten's and twenty's.

I think everyone agree's raising dog's for profit is not a sound business endevor.

I need another cup of coffee,

Brent.

I have kept large numbers of dogs for decades. I always have huge profits.

I clean them up, twice a day!

by srilankagsd on 09 July 2008 - 16:07

Its not profitable, I am 3 years on with my import bitch and i have not even covered 5% of my expense.

Abhay,

Do you deliver???

I am considering exporting and always looking for supplier's.

I'm considering the Chinese market's and possible trade deal's.

Brent.

Bob, I frankly couldn't give a damn about being harsh with these types.  I'm sure my words on a message board are not as harsh as the lives her pups will live. Go back and read her posts and hopefully you saw the picture she had with her kennel name before she changed it.

You told her to do the best she can, well, Bob, this seems to be the best she can I don't see the need to encourage it. You're entitled to yours. I'm entitled to mine.

She is obviously uninformed, at best, about the breed yet is breeding. I have no time or patience with back yard breeders. Period.

Maybe she got the idea that breeders make money hand over fist because she bought from Bill Fleischer.

dawg's,

Yes you have your's, and I have mine.  This slur  (back yard breeder's) strike's a nerve with me, you don't have to own twenty dog's and have huge kennel's to breed great dog's.

Maybe you could put it another way.

Uneducated, unethical, unprofessional, idiotic, but leave my back yard out of it.

Harsh word's won't change anything, be more specific.

Try explaining what it take's to be a breeder instead of bashing.  Not having time or patience doesn't make for doing anything well.

Less anger maybe,

Brent.

Good point dawg:

I don,t know this person maybe you do. So if you don,t lets just blow them off and not try to teach them the difference lets not try to guide or help lets just bad mouth and complain that always is a beter idea then constructive critisisam. the finger points only one direction so I,m glad you have put me on the straight narrow so hey I did learn something here. why try to help any one just screw them and dust off!!!! and whine complain and bitch.

Two Moons_Not angry. Sick of the bull.  I didn't say anything about your backyard or how many dogs a person needs in order to be a reputable breeder.  I am not a fan of monster breeding programs and don't quite understand why you would assume I am. I didn't coin the term BYB but since it exists, in all it's connotations, I will use it. There are breeders and there are Back Yard Breeders.  It is what it is. To try to change saying BYB's to unethical, unprofessional breeders smacks of political correctness. I'm not really up to the verbal dissection of every phrase used in every circle. FWIW, I didn't even know you bred, either in your yard, your house or anywhere else. Wasn't directed at you. :)

And I'm not trying to "put you on the straight narrow", there, Bob.  I told you why I said what I said. I didn't tell you what to say.  I'm not trying to sway you in your thinking. I have mine. You have yours. I'm not trying to dictate "yours" yet you definitely seem to be trying to dictate "mine". Good luck with all that.

I would say you may very well have a point if the woman hadn't, um, let's see a kinder way to say it....taken great liberties with facts?  She speaks of her breeding program in present tense and offers stud service on her kennel page yet says she isn't a breeder? Not a good indicator of anyone who wants to improve her "program".

You don't like the extreme aversion I have to back yard breeders. I don't care for your opposite extreme of do the best you can with what you've got and lets dust it off with that. You have yours. I have mine.  I notice you didn't give any concrete advice, guidance or constructive critisism either, Bob?

I will say I didn't care for the attacks on the woman's nail polish or home state. Kentucky is a beautiful state and anyone who has been there knows that it isn't Dogpatch. I didn't participate in that but you bet your a$$ I'm going to say something about her breeding practices and I'm not the only one that feels this way.  Hell, maybe we should form a 12 step support group.

If you feel this strongly that she would beneifit from tutelage, bravo for you. Hope you make some headway. By my count there are four others, just this last week, who are waiting in line for their education. You could probably start an online school and make all the money Blair thinks is floating about the universe.
