I hold all the papers on spay neuter until the spay and neuter is done and I get prof . If you choose full rights then I give papers but you can't breed until 2 years old and OFA's done. In my contract new owners have to send the puppy/dog back to me if they can't keep them or I can help re home. But I was so mad by the time I found out everything that she was coming home no matter what, My husband was not happy but I didn't care she was coming home no matter what I had to do to get her there.
But the contract is as good as the breeder and owner make it. It just makes me mad that the new owners what everything upheld (which should be) but don't want to uphold it themselves. I was told "that I could not tell him what to do with the dog because he paid for her" and I said that you had no problem when you read and sign my contract and that I would do everything in my power to uphold it and that I expected him to do the same. So I went and got her from the person that he sold her to and they we pretty nice about it, guys wife didn't like me much, because I would not give her the papers, but her husband was really nice about it. And I think they got their money back but not sure.

There is nothing preventing someone going to a fly by night Registry, and getting their dog papered. The only thing is, the more educated one becomes, they will find out papers from such registries are worth about as much as a ped written out on used TP.
Regarding APBT's, if the dog isn't ADBA or UKC registered, the papers aren't worth much. The exceptions might be Bonafied Kennel Club, as its founder Carl Mimms is such a respected dogman, and the AADR who are in turmoil at this time. However both of these Registries will need to verify that your ped is correct and valid. Other than that, the papers aren't worth squat.

Withholding papers won't prevent a buyer from registering any dog with one of the bogus splinter registeries. You need no proof that the dog is purebred and it actually doesn't need to be purebred to be registered with the CKC and most of the others. They take owners at their word; if they say their dog is purebred, then they register it as such.
I live in Amish country, that's how most of the Amish puppy farmers now register their litters. They don't want to be in the AKC paperwork loop and the bogus registeries have no such requirement. Most pets buyers don't understand of care about the differecne between AKC and the other groups. Look how many buy degisner breeds thinkg they ae purebred and some even think they are about to get AKC sanction. Pet buyers only care that they are buying a "registered" dog. Puppymillers tell them that AKC is run by a bunch of crooks and they can read messages on boards such as this one written by dog people who constantly condemn AKC for not doing a better job. Many expcet AKC to police every breed and do the work that the breeders themselves should be doing. By doing that, we actually help the bogus registeries help the puppymillers look legitimate.

Robin,
What a beautiful girl you have, that's good you managed to get her back.
That happened to me quite a few years back, some lady that was involved in
dog shows got a good looking female from me, that was way back when I didn't
do limited reg. Anyway, she kept calling and complaining about this & that, so I
offered to drive to her house immediately and give her a full refund & take back
the pup, then she says when her husband comes home he'll notice her gone
and be heartbroken.
I later found out she resold the pup, but it was seen at an obedience club and
was looking good.
The lady I sold her to I later found out was know by other gsd people as a real NUT!
So all I could do with that was never forget her name, and the town she lives in,
Like I ever could
Her initials are: D. H.---really,...... which surprisingly could stand for another name
Anyway, then you have people on the other spectrum, that get a pup from you and never send in the paperwork
