Why don't you ask the thousands of dog owners that Diamond Pet foods has killed over the years how they like Diamond? Or maybe ask the lady on this very forum whose German Shepherd died last year from renal failure caused from feeding Diamond Pet food to her beloved German Shepherd. Diamond is the largest co-packer in the pet food industry and is only concerned about corportae profits.
You people need to wake up and smell the roses Purina Pro Plan isn't much better than Diamond..Pro Plan killed 2 of my German Shepherds so I speak from experience. Take a look at Orijen a lot of people on this forum have switched to Orijen with real good result.

There is only ONE way to know what goes into the food you feed your dogs (and your family) - make it yourself using homegrown produce and protein sources, raise your own meat. If you think "organically grown" means safer, think again. I know vets who work with these organic farmers and they say much of their food is no safer than what we buy at the supermarket. Who decides what is organic?
Don't kid yourself, all dog food manufactureres are in business for one reason - to make money. Don't think it's about your dogs. This is America where everything is all about money. Just because you pay a small fortune for a bag of dog food doesn't mean you aren't running the chance of some sort of contamination. IMO Diamond is probably one of the safest right now since they are under a lot of scrutiny and can't afford more lawsuits. None are 100% and something as common as a disgruntled employee getting even can result in the deaths or illnesses of thousands of animals. The same can be said for us humans - tomatoes and spinach contaminated with e-coli, antifreeze in our toothpaste, etc?

I been feeding Diamond Dog Food for over 20 years my dogs have solid stools beautifull healthy shiny coats, my pups are allways grow up healthy. My dogs work well and show well.
I tried a few other dogfoods such as Royal Canine , Orijen, and Proplan try to raise a pup on those foods din't like the result after 6 month trials went back to Diamond and seen the diffrents in their coats and weight.
I really believe it depends on the dog itself every dog is diffrent . For instant I feed raw to some of my dogs and their stomach is ok then some others they get diarrea from raw. So it really depends on the dogs.
Thats my Opinion on dogfood I don't think the price is the importants of the dogfood you feed it's whats in the dogfood .

Few of us do have the time to do that, Shelly.

I had been feeding my dogs the Diamond Naturals lamb and rice. They ate it good...but they pooped ALOT on it and also my male got a really crappy coat. I have switched my dogs to the Kirkland lamb and rice and they are doing great on it. They dont poop half as much and their energy levels are good also. The thing about the Diamond is that it has alot of grains in it.

Taste of the Wild is grain free.

Can't believe anyone here is still buying their dogs food from any company that was involved with re-calls...Forget that, with this topic (or one very close) coming up every other week or so you would think the people here should know better...
We use Orijen with nothing but great things to say about it...Everyone we know who has tried it has made the switch...Now that its gaining in popularity they went and raised their prices but still not that expensive if you can go and pick it up yourself ($47.00/29.6 lb bag adult formula)...The difference between being able to go and just pick it up "locally" as compared to ordering it on line can be $20.00...I understand that you can only do whats "reasonable", still there are other options for those of you still using anything made by Diamond...
As always I am not the final word on anything...However, I know enough to never give my GSDs anything from a comapny that has been proven responsible for the death of any dog via their ingredients, manufactering process or where they get their ingredients...Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me...
Canidae is now suspect, as is Timberwolf Organics, both changed their formulas with poorer results than expected...Chicken Soup for the...gave my GSDs the runs and I've heard that too many times about that "premium" dog food that is very reasonably priced...Guess you do get what you pay for and with that being said, your dog is your business...Do what you will and accept the consequences...
We have been using Orijen for a little over a year now and are very happy with it, as are the dogs...I have found that with using Orijen you need less dog food than you think...Works for us and will continue to use it...
Another HHH day here in Florida...You all have a great day...
Will chat/will not get into a pissing contest over this with anyone...

Jyl,
Interesting that you say your dogs do really great on the Kirkland brand but not Diamond foods. I believe Diamond is the producer of the Kirkland brand for Costco.
Rainhaus,
You are extremely lucky that your dogs do well on Purina puppy Chow. I doubt that will last for long though.
Rob,
I have a dog that was on Orijen and he didn't do well on it at all. I know there are people here that sing the praises for this food but it didn't impress me nor my dog one bit. Just expensive that's all.
Now, I'm a huge fan of Canidae and this whole ingredient change has my stomach in knots. I've decided to stick with it to see how they do on the new formula for now.
I have a very good friend who got wind of the Canidae change long before I did. She switched her dogs over to Diamond Naturals Chicken and Rice.
Her dogs transitioned nice over to the food and she finds that 3 cups a day hold all but her very active male who gets an extra cup a day. This food costs her $22.00 for a 40 pound bag.
If Canidae doesn't do well with my dogs I too will consider swtiching to one of Diamond's formulas as well. I can't see paying a lot more for a food that contains any grains.
I don't understand the ire against Diamond. ANY dog food manufacturer can and has had similar food issues that has killed many pets so picking on them seems futile.
As Blitzen says, we'd have to cook our own dog's food to know they have any remote chance of being safe but is that truly safe either? Look at all the food recalls for people lately. None of us are immune to contamination of our food stuffs.
