Hey Gard,

I'm really sorry to hear about your loss.  My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, you and the other officers on that Dept.  It is the hardest thing a cop ever has to go through.  I lost a buddy of mine on 1/17/08 when we were conducting a narcotics search warrant, he was standing next to me in the train; when the defendant started shooting through his front door at us.  We did a tremondous amount of fundraisers as that Detective has 3 small children, to raise money for his family.  If I can be of any help please let me know.  I hope the media is kind to your PD as they can spread a tremondous amount of misinformation and publish all kinds of erroneous "facts."

It takes a long time to get over the loss of a friend and fellow officer.  I can't say that over time it becomes better or easier, it just seems to let you have longer periods where you don't think about it as much; and some moments when you can think about other things.  Take care of yourself, and make sure the PD takes care of his family.

Jim
