Freaking me out toenail! - Page 2

LOL    ALSO HAVE THE VET CUT ALL HIS NAILS WHILE YOUR DOING IT....

My vet will be thrilled to see him.  You should of seen his face (the vet not Xandor) when he tried to collect semen from him.  There are two things you don't touch on Xandor...his nails and his jewels...period.  Not even with a bitch in heat right in his face.  Just ain't gonna happen.

Abe did that a while back except his bled....  To the vet, BIG dose of tranqs for him, and a muzzle.  Oh yeah, and three of us holding him down..........   That's part of the reason I have multiple muzzles in every dog first aid kit.  Good luck!

If your dog is not in any pain, then why are you going to the vet???

I have 8 dogs and 8 kids.........................
ALL my dogs lay perfectly still while I cut their nails, you just have to give them
a gentle massage, on their shoulder, or have a kid scratch their belly

Having said that.................Your vet WILL be happy to see you coming,$$$$$$$

I myself, would wait and see if that grows out and straightens on it's own.

Also, this may sound strange, BUT, if you mess with that you may make it worse.

I have to go away for a few days on Tues. and I'm afraid that the nail will snag on something and then I would have a really freaking out husband and a dog bleeding all over freshly done floors. 

It would take more than a belly rub to get that nail off of Xandor.  I don't want to tranq him under at his age though.  I just need a few people to sit on him.

While I've very sorry for Xandor's nail and the canker on Tigermouse's girl's lady parts, I have to say this thread gets my vote for the most amusing of the week

That does look nasty, better have it checked out soon as possible before it could run a infection. Have you inspected it to see how it has come out.

Worse come to worse you better have it cut or you will end up with:

1) mislocated toe as the nail will change the placement of the toe

2) lots of headaches from future nail cutting

3) more toe nail injury as the toe nail is out of place

By the picture..It looks like the qiuk(sp) within all of his front nails are over grown.Not to get on you but its pretty obvious that his nails are rareley trimmed.This is the cause of the snagging of this nail.You can have your vet sedate him and qiuk back his nails where they should be or soak his feet in water to soften the nail and just start trimming abit at a time.I'm glad that I don't have to trim my dogs.They wear them off naturally.

I think if trimmed the toe will get better with time.

Letting them get long does make this kind of thing more likely to occur.   I have to trim mine often, even the two who have free range , bad thing is a freshly trimmed nail will draw blood if you get a good scratch from the dog.   One of mine like's to use his feet as a way of getting my attention and has scratched me several time's.

I'll admit they're a little too long but that one looks really long because of the way it's ripped out.  I'm biting the bullet this morning and buying a muzzle.  I'll hogtie him to the fence and just ignore his ranting and raving and frothing at the mouth.
