The crud promoted against Iams and Eukanuba is PETA driven. Be careful what you believe.

ORCHARDLANE. I think if you were to delve deep enough into any of the dog food manufacturers you would be bound to find things that were undesirable , so its as the others say , horses for courses and what you feel suits your dogs best.

TRUEVIEW - I defintely agree that the major manufacturer's of petfoods that you generally see in grocery stores, chain pet stores etc are very undesirable. That is why I have left the main stream dog food industry and sought out companies that I am confident in dealing with.
I am not a fan of PETA at all by any means - in fact I think they are 99.9% full of crap and that they are complete media-wh*res looking for their faces on TV but unfortunately for IAMS when I contacted them about my concerns - they read a script and directed me to their own PR website ... their website (at the time I went to it in 2005 when I stopped using Eukanuba) clearing showed one of the dogs featured in the "peta crud" as being one of the newly IAMS employee adopted dogs that had recently left the wonderfully humane and sanctuary like animal research facility owned by IAMS - the dog had the same name - same markings, same coloring - everything. It was the same dog. When I contacted IAMS about this again - pointing out the same dog appearing on both sites - they hung up on me after placing me on hold while the rep was looking for her supervisor (this repeatedly happened to me for 5 calls - then I just gave up as I knew I was not going to get an honest answer).
I went to a completely raw diet supplied by a company that gets it right off the farm from NS farmers. It was a PITA to get and it was costly as I had to drive for over 3 hours - to another province to pick it up but it was worth it in the mean time.
I took 7 months of intense research for me to come to Urban Carnivore, Fromm and Orijen. Fromm is actually one of the few foods out there that was certified cruelty free in the UK (it still is I believe but I am tyring to find out the name of the organization that does the certification (I have it filed away somewhere).
Thus far, I have yet to find anything alarming with these three companies I do business with. If I ever do, I will investigate it further as I choose to allow my money to assert my values.
I didn't choose to leave Eukanuba lightly and I didn't base my decision on one wesbite soley. When I used Eukanuba - I did have great results. I recommeneded it to people and was happy. However, sometimes it is necessary to understand who you are doing business with and it is best to take your money elsewhere.
