Great pix/video. Makes me even more excited for Gabi's litter from Bandit.
I have never seen a dog with black pigment in its ears. How the hell would you read the tattoo?

Dark dogs often do have black "leather" in the ears - but not until they are adult/older. My Eagle (very dark sable) and his son Brix (solid black) have black leather in the ears (not as puppies) and yes it is nearly impossible to read the tattooes. I suspect my other black and dark sable dogs also have black leather inside their ears - haven't cared enough about the pigment inside their ears to actually check on it though.

I never noticed that on Eagle, but then I am usually so distracted by his dark, melt-your-heart eyes, thick beautiful coat, dark pigment and solid structure, I never think to look at the color in his ears. Ha ha ha.
T has dark pigment around the edges, ever-encroaching on the flesh-tone in the middle, but his tattoo is off-center, not really legible anymore unless you know the digits you're looking for.

I can certainly see why. Not that Bandit isn't great looking himself, but I wouldn't be surprised if the brother of Bomber produced offspring that looked more like Bomber than Bomber himself produces. I've seen it lots of times in dogs. (Not talking about color here, but structure).

So why is black ear leather required? After having been around LE and MWD K9 hanlders a good part of my 20s and schutzhund people (both working and show) a good part of my 30s, I've never (before today) heard anyone with a specific requirement for inner ear color or appearance. I'm curious as to what it signifies.
