I agree. I know it's not for everyone and seems overwhelming to some, but I feed raw and never worry about what ingredients may be harming my dog.

Watch the high protein ratio...may be too high ......not good for pups to be that high....had an incident in Houston with a high drive male in training for SchH3 and he almost died on too high protein....burned his liver...took 6 months to recover to get back...vet said too high for even an active dog...and in summer very bad to be that high....metabalizm slows down and excess doesnt digest correctly and the liver is your filtering .....

Innova is known as a great holistic dog food option. We ran it through the online Healthy Label Test and it got a 5 out of 5 with these comments:
- You got big kudos for having the main displayed ingredient first on the ingredient list.
- You received a large bump up for "complete and balanced" as recognized by AAFCO.
- It would have been better if your food was "organic", but by being "natural" you can be reasonably sure that you are getting good ingredients.
- We always lean towards brands who display their calorie information as it is a strong indication that the brand is complying with AAFCO standards.
- Cooking or freezing dog food (in other words, most dog food) loses essential vitamins and minerals in the process. Products with vitamins are not only more nutritious, they are also likely to be manufactured by a company with their head in the right place.
Best in health,
Jeff

We have a 14-month old male GSD. Always fed dry kibble Innova for large puppy/now adult. One month ago the vet did full urine and blood analysis - perfect profile. I started mixing Innova kibble with canned California Natural (also made by Natura) about 3 weeks ago. The dog got retested yesterday as he has been acting a bit lethargic. BUN came to 30 (normal upper limit 27) - possible sign of kidney problem. Crea is normal which is good. However, out previous GSD (not even 3 years old) died from kidney failure last year. We fed him Royal Canin for GSD, Natural Balance canned and Hill's Prescription diet canned; all three companies had food items on the recall list.
Someone at a different forum mentioned that California Natural has too high phosphorus. I checked it out and it is true- quite higher than Innova canned or even Evo canned. Good phosphorus/calcium balance is very important for kidney health. I will stop California Natural cans immediately and switch to Innova cans. I am serously considering consulting with a dog nutritionist. I can cook for the dog based on a well balanced food plan. I am just sick of worrying about the quality of commerical foods! Don't trust the system anymore...

My female gsd who is 14 months old and my lab who is 6 years old are both doing very well on Evo. Their coats are great, have high energy levels and their stool is hard and small.
