Thanks von Hayden! That is exactly the information I was looking for. I do have some of this medicine but did not know the dosage, so was afraid to use it.

von Hayden

should'nt I follow the deworming  as outlined per weight on the bottle ?   a 100 pound goat /cow would get 2.3ml ( cc) . Just received the safe guard today  . 15 cc as you mentioned for a 73 pound dog  is enough to worm a 700 pound animal according to worm dosage on bottle

I have always been advised to use Pirantel (it might have a different name in the US, and could be the same as the Pyran 50 mentioned by Von Hayden)) for puppies at 2-3 weeks, it is very gentle for small pups and seems to work fine without upsetting them at all. Then at 6-7 weeks we give them Praxil or similar, the same as we give the adult dogs.

I ONLY deworm my puppies if needed......... I bring stool samples to my vet to have them checked for parasites at 3 weeks, 4 weeks, 5 weeks, 6 weeks and 7 weeks. That way I do not fill up those little bodies with chemicals if it is not needed. So far I had 4 litters (2 in Germany and 2 here in the USA) and I never had worms in my puppies so far. The all my dogs are on heartworm so they go through a regular worm treatment anyway , I  give the puppies their first heart worm pill when they are about 6 weeks old and if you keep everything very clean then you have a good chance of not having a parasite problem at all.

This might be a bit more expensive and a bit ore of a pain in the ass for me as a breeder, but to me it is well worth it !!

Very good advice Claudia.Sometimes worming is done when not necessary.I am very fortunate to have a vet that will examine the stool samples without seeing the dog or puppy with a minute charge. If he ever stops that.Well I'll have to invest in a microscope..haha
