Steve, there are many, many of us 'over here' who are breaking our butts, and our banks, to train and title our dogs ourselves.  Please do not make such a broad statement, it is hurtful to those of us, who are trying so hard.

Hi there KC,

$ 5,000 is not that far off, unfortunately. With the weak US-Dollar, you are getting close to paying that now. I currently have two dogs in Germany and we are getting ready to take over two more this summer when my husband flys over to visit with my parents. Depending on where you go for titles, the prices are now between 1,500 to 2,500 Euros for a SchH1 (2,400 to 4,000 US-Dollars) and 500 to 600 Euros for a breed survey (800 to 1,000 US-Dollars). Of course, that all includes the BH (which is part of the SchH1) and the AD (which is part of the breed survey). Add to this the transportation cost (which would be about $1,000 each way unaccompanied) and other incidentals like vet bills, entry fees etc. , you are way over that amount already. That is why I can't afford any other vacation than flying to Germany, ha ha.

Yesterday I browsed through and was intrigued by a message with this heading authored by a poster named usimports. When I clicked on your name you had a second ad listed in which you offered training services such as the one you inquired about. That ad isn't there today. I'm just curious what you charge for these services?

Good Post. You are correct

you can get someone and pay them a small fortune to train your Dog for you and Put it through to get it titled re SchH 123

But at what standard is this being done

I have seen Dogs over here rushed through to get it to SchH 3 as qiuck as possible but at what cost

when worked again later the Dog loses its way, and has to be retrained to re ajust some bad habits it picked up on its rush to get titled

And for those interested all the times this has happened is because the Owner wants to breed it, So for me they are looking at it finacially and not because they enjoy the Sport of Schutzhund

As for myself i am not interested in Breeding with my two Pups, so they will be taken along at a regular pace when they get one thing right they move on i am not bothered if it takes a few months or 6 months longer than some to get to the end result so long as they enjoy what they do without any added pressure put on them to get titles before they are ready

Hello Sarah,

David Kroyer here in Texas can title a dog to Sch3 for that price and he is one of the top trainers around. He is located in Austin, Texas, but very worth your while! His site is http://www.canineheadquarters.com

usimports,

You have to look at the bigger picture.  Price is all relative. It should also not be the most important consideration.  In most cases you get what you pay for.  I would have no problem paying Wallace Payne or T Floyd that kind of money, because they have proven what they can do.  You have to ask yourself, is it worth it to you?  Now if this guy you are looking at has only placed high in trials with dogs that he already bought with titles then would you still give him the money?

I have personally seen what happens with dogs that are not of the greatest caliber and they "have to get the title". It was not a real good site to see.  Another thing to think about is if someone is paid by the month what is there insentive to not milk you dry, on the other hand if you just pay a lump sum they might pressure you dog through with E Collars, Sticks, Boots or whatever else is necessary to push the dog.

If you can not train the dog yourself make sure you can trust whoever has it.

Actually the place I posted the training for is not personally me. I am posting for a SchH trainer here. My friend thought $5000 was a little high as did my trainer. I am pretty sure he charges no more than $3500 for an AD, BH, SchH1 and that also includes the boarding, food, entry fee's, etc. no matter how long the dog stays. His average is between 3-5 months depending on how much work the dog needs (or does not need) when it arrives. The Show conditioning and entries for conformation ratings are extra. I title my own dogs so don't really know what "fair" would be, so thought I would ask, since everyone here at one time or another has had to title, or knows of someone who has had to title a dog or two (or three)! : )
