Again all this because of the BROTHELS in India called KCI and GSDCI. I will reiterate and reiterate If you really want to help the Breed and the honest people who are trying to work hard for the betterment of the breed Everyone, whether in India or US or Germany, anywhere in the world should try and help bring changes in India GSD scene and specifically these two defunct and Fuc**d up organizations for the betterment of the Dogs

Mr Alex, Maybe its a good idea to check out with Sonja which male suits your bitch. Put to her all the good males you have access to in your town. where are you from. Are in Pune? If so Mr. Desai has some nice dogs. There is also Cash Van Der Lust there. I am thinking you are in Pune bcos your bitch has Sanjay's breeding. You have already used azim's dog. Hips are important whether we can score them in India or not. Use only good hip scored dogs if I were you.

X rays are not very practical in India. Neither are the technicians trained to taken the right view nor are vets trained to read them properly. You will have better chances if there is a teaching vet college nearby. Hip scoring needs collective will. In the absence of an organized body, it is upto individual breeders to use their good concience to decide on whether to breed a particular combination. Several years ago, in an allbreeds show in south India, a GSD male with horrible hind was given BOB CC and a board placement. The judge then announced that this is an excellent 'All breeds' type GSD, but would not win under him in a specialty. This dog became a champion later. Last year, when i was in India - I was shown a young dog introduced proudly as the grandson of the dog mentioned above. The guy who owns the dog only knows the grandsire was a champion - never knew how good or bad he was. What a dis-service some judges do to our breed.

Shantha, I am in Hyderabad, I had sent my bitch by train to Pune. My bitch was bought from a breeder friend of mine who used Sanjai's Dog (Dasty) on his female

I know it is too late a suggestion for Alex in India, but here is yet another reply: Concerning the things you can do for your puppies' hip health (before or after whelping): Years ago my vet recommended Vitamin C for growing pups. I make sure my bitches are on 500 to 1,000 mg/day(vary dose according to size and appetite) before breeding, and until whelping. Pups are kept on Vitamin C 500 mg(liquid) until 5-6 months old. I've had good sucess so far, keeping in mind: 1. select the right parents for hip status depth(generations of good hip status, HDZW) and 2. poor hip status depth in the parents, even if the resulting pups show no signs of the disease, will still be passed on genetically. This supplementation with Vitamin C has had alot of controversy over the years. I did alot of research, am careful not to overdo it (even if the dose isn't toxic, it can irritate the stomach lining if done in excess), and make sure I feed the pups quality food, but after teething NOT EXCESSIVELY HIGH IN PROTEIN. It is detrimental to a puppy's health to grow too quickly, unlike the domestic animals we raise for food, which we want to get as fast as possible to maximum size.

These questions and research should be asked and completed before you breed!
