A segment on 60 Minutes last night featured 2 different families from 2 different areas of the country. One, who they called the Greens, were vegans and vegetarians, only purchased organically grown food, used environmentally safe cleaning products, etc.  Their kids have never eaten meat in any form. They all appeared to be physically fit. The second family, the Brown's, ate anything and everything and said they were way too busy to shop for environmetally safe products. The father was overweight, the rest of the family looked normal. Anyway, each member of both families was blood tested for various chemicals. They detected 42 in the Green family, 43 in the Brown family at approximately the same levels except one of the more dangerous contaminates was higher in the Green family. Two moons you are right i believe cancer is a lot of the time hereditary ,having had a lot of my family members and grandparents cousins get cancer .

 Actually, incredible progress is being made in identifying the causes of many forms of cancer. And yes, many forms are clearly genetic, and a few are now known to be caused by specific viruses. There are a few rare cancers known to be caused by specific exposure to specific chemicals.

I think everyone would do well to read Blitzens' post above again and again and again. There is such a thing as cause and effect. Just because I have a headache tonight, for example, and I drink a concoction of some special herb, or a mixture of dirt, and my headache goes away, and I continue taking the same concoction for the next 5 years and never have another headache does NOT MEAN it was because of the concoction I took. PLease....use a little sense if you have no clue about how real science is done. At best, anecdotal experience is all too often taken as gospel. And as for the book, how much money do you think this guy will make selling you all a lot of crap?

Kevin Trudeau, no thank you....   If you want to know about herbal cures and ancient medicines they have been written about for so many years, long before Kevin was even born.     Kevin is a clown as far as I'm concerned.  

Chemicals?  They are in us all right now.  Its in the air, in our food and water, hell its in the pots and pans we cook with.  All of us have teflon in our systems right now.    Lead , mercury, DDT, cloridane, nicotine sulfate, poly vinylcloride, formaldihide, chlorine.    This is the world we have created.   Cancer is a dieing organism that can't survive either because its too toxic or too weak to fight the toxin.   I have been exposed to Gypsum, asbestos, nictotine, crop dust containing herbicides and pesticides, not to mention living down wind of a power plant and a paper mill, and then there is my love of the combustion engine and all of that crap I have inhaled all my life.   Which one do I blame my failing lungs on?   The bodies immune system was not designed for these kinds of things, I dont care what kind of cure you have in a bottle. 

So you see its not just the pet food is it.

Ok, I have a question.  I have a 5 yr old male with EPI.  He cannot digest his food without the aid of enzymes. There is no way to give him bones of any kind. He just throws them up. Could I mix his meds with the raw? Is there a website on what, and how much to feed?

I grow all my own veggies, raise my own beef (I don't do chickens, though) so I know exactly what is going into them!

I'd really like to get away from the crappy processed dog food.

Deal I would suggest posting a new message with your question if you want results.  It would be a good topic.   I am no expert but if your dog has digestive problems try grinding everything up whatever your feeding to make it easier to digest.

I can make several excellent suggestions as I have had a lot of experience with GSDs and digestive issues over the years with 100s of rescue dogs. There are many things that are often missed and there are indeed ways to help most of the dogs who truly have some sort of digestive issue, rather than, for instance, undiagnosed parasites or bacterial infection (which is the MOST COMMON CAUSE of trouble like this). If you want help, email me privately or, better yet, search this board for the topic and you will find numerous discussions about this in the past.

My Mother does alot of holistic, I use to ignore her. Until my female kept getting a bladder infection and we could not get it cured. she would test for high acid, bacteria, cystals in the urine. I kept getting 2 of them knocked out, then one would come back. I looked at the meds I was giving her with the warnings, Liver and /or kidney damage. I bought a book of natural cures for dogs. Vitiamin C, apple cider vinegar, cranberry capsules. In 7 days all was gone and less than $20.00.  I no longer ignore Mom on all things natrual. However, I do get concerned about to much of it and mixing and matching, when we do not have the education for it.

Another thing, I put in new carpet a few years back, the smell was outrages and lasted for months. Carpet again and had them use enviroment friendly glue, no smell. Anybody else notice, for a few years, I bought a newchandlier, Light bulbs kept popping/going out within week with very little use. I thought it the fixture had a short. Now it does fine and the bulbs last. I am thinking, It was like when we first started to have things shipped over from Japan, use to be a standing joke "the am/fm radio", now they make a car that last 200,000 miles (learning curve). I think we are on a learning curve from China  on how the products are made and the chemicals that go in them..

Doggie, I'm surprised  your vet didn't suggest Vit C or apple cider vinegar for  your dog with the chronic bladder infection. Changing the pH of the urine is often all that it takes. Most bacteria can't survive in an acidic environment and it can also help prevent the formation of bladder stones and urinary crystals. It's good for cats too.

The carpet glue most likely contained formalin, it outgasses into the environment and does have a distinctive odor.  Years ago before the use of environmentally friendly adhesives, walking through a new RV or mobile home could be a terrible expereince for  those who were allergic to formalin. In those days everything was made from sheets of thin plywood laminated together with glue. A neighbor spent a ton of money renovating his chalet only to have to sell it since he was allergic to the formalin in the adhesive that was used to install floor coverings and new paneling. 

I think that many natural remedies have merit, but if you are dealing with a life threatening disease, holistic meds alone may not be enough but can help in conjunction with chemical cures.  Holistic cures seem to take a lot longer to work.
