I definately like Czech lines better! From my experience they have better nerves and are much easier to work with. I also tend to like the Czech "bulkiness" better also. The DDR I personally have had (3) were complete nerve bags. Although it may have been because of not being solicalized when they were young? Just my experience.

Thanks Fireguy, you are so welcome   I'm glad he is in such a wonderful home as yours!! I will admit I do have seller's remorse though.

Ramage,

I don't personally own Czech lines, but have heard that they are high in drive and you don't have to wait for them to mature. I personally like the DDR lines better myself. Even if you have to wait for them to mature mentally it's worth the wait in gold to me :-)  Not all the DDR lines are slow to mature though. I have a full DDR line girl that is staying with me for awhile here that isn't slow at all to mature. She is also very serious, no play bites with her it's all the real thing. High food and prey drive. I also have a male here that is 50% DDR and 50% West working that is everything in one package. I really love this cross!! Everyone has their own picks. You have to find what fits your personal lifestyle and go with it.

DDR -

Here is the link to Onyx's pedigree:  http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/480355.html

He was the 2nd best GSD that I have every had the honor of being owned by.  He came into my life when I needed him most, protected me and my children more times than I can count, was my best friend, companion and protector.   By 4-5 months, he was sitting, downing, staying, coming and going out.  He loved to track, and play "hide and seek" with the kids.  My kids could litterally get down in his face while he was eating, pet and play with him in any fashion, and he never even so much as made an aggresive move towards them.   We had orginally purchased him as simply a companion.  This dog meant so much to me and my girls, that I even picked him over my first husband! :) :)  Not that it was a hard decision to make in the first place. :)

I remember when I first REALLY knew just how special he was.  When he was about a yr old, we lived next door to some people who had some very bad, mean dogs.  My kids were out playing in my yard, when the neighbors dogs jumped our fence and began chasing and attacking my girls.  My girls immediatly jumped in my car to protect themselves, and the 3 dogs were circling the car, jumping on it, etc., to get to them.  ( I didn't see that part, but it's what my girls told me).  Onyx was in the house, and started to go crazy, running around like a mad man, up and down the stairs, barking and carrying on.  By the time (seemed like a split second), it took me to look out the windows to check on the kids and look for a possible intruder, and run outside when I couldn't see the girls, Onyx had jumped out of a 2nd story window, onto our carport, down to the ground, and went after all 3 dogs by himself.  Unfortunatly, Onyx had killed one (I say unfortunately, because I hate to see any dog hurt), while one continued to cirlcle the car and one went after Onyx.  Knowing my girls were safe, I went after the one attacking Onyx.  All ended well, atleast for us.  Onyx did have some wounds, but nothing real serious, neighbor lost all of his dogs, and ended up paying for 1/2 my vet expenses! :)

Unfortunately, we lost Onyx in Dec. 05, just 2 weeks to the day after I lost my mother.  But we had a wonderful life with him, and know that his spirit lives on in his daughter, the female that I have now, and in our hearts! :)

Christine I am sorry to hear about your Mom  and onyx passing. The reason i asked for a name or pedigree is most people think they have ddr dogs and they have a mixed line. Your Onyx haus Gill dog was mostly west ,his sire champ was west german line in the 3 rd generation. Thank you for posting and people should post the dogs name or pedigree
