I agree with EKvon ..

EK,

That's what I am saying....

If my pick stud fee puppy carries my kennel name then I don't care about a hip guarentee....

However, if I HAVE to have my puppy with their kennel name then I want a hip guarentee...

Stud fee = purchase price of puppy ~~~ so with this logic my puppy shouldn't be exempt from the hip guarentee just because I am taking it rather than a cash stud fee if it carries someone else's kennel name is my other point.

Does this make sense now?

I certainly see what you are saying. Here is how it usually goes: you stud your dog out to the bitch. Puppies are born. You select your pick and its named with the bitch owners kennel name. No guarantee. However, if, before the breeding date, you wish to make an alternate arrangement, than the terms are up to you. With AKC registration, the owner at the time of registration names the puppy. End of story. Most breeders have you sign a contract that states you will name the pup with their kennel name. I would approach the botch owner and let them choose the option. They can a) let you pick your pup, name it what you want and have no guarantee or b) let you pick your pup, name with their name and have a full guarantee. There is no rule that says things have to be done in any one way. There is just the usual terms. Your contract/agreement is what you make it.

The puppy is normally worth a heck of a lot more than the stud fee.  So, I never agree to "pick" puppy in exchange for stud fee - the breeder pays for the stud fee, and then if I want a pup from the litter, I buy one, guarantee, breeders' kennel name and all.  Maybe get a discount for a pick pup because the breeder used your stud and has a friendly relationship with you.  But even so, there is no stud  whose fee is worth the price of a good quality puppy :)

You could always  Share a kennel name .     Makes both parties happy, esp. if you are going to be working the pup, it would make the bitch's owner feel proud that her female contributed .

Or just say the stud fee = a puppy back for you to do what ever you wish.   That would be how I would address it.

Could you post a pic and pedigree of your dog?

In my neck of the woods the stud owner uses his kennel name to register his pick from the litter.  The pup is not guaranteed.  The stud is responsible for 50% of the genetics for the pup.  If something goes wrong why should the bitch owner be the one stuck?  If the bitch owner was planning to keep back something, I defer my pick to the pup that they did not also choose.

I agree with EKvE and Molly.

K9sar06:     If a person used your stud and had some bad hips would you refund part of the stud fee?

I didn't think so.
