Nearly $500. $200 more for Penn Hip in Eastern PA, where I was also gouged $80 for a DAPP+L puppy vaccination last week when I forgot to order a fresh case and had run out.

Hey thanks for the info about MSU.  I called them on Monday and have a appointment for Chaos on June 11th. at 12:30 to get his hips and elbows done.  When I asked them how much I all was, she said for all of it, including the $35 OFA fee, its $144.00 for everything!!!!!!  I called my vet and asked them what it would cost me there.  I don't even want to say, LOL.  It would have been office call, anesthesia, and then the xray cost.  I'll takes MSU for that price, lol.  Even wth the gas prices the way they are!

Can you tell me how a person is going to take X-Rays of  the correct postitions on a Dogs Hips and Elbows if it is not sedated

They do not do them  with the Dog standing up least ways not over here they do not,

and one jab and five seconds after the dog is out and it is then stress free for the animal

It seems your Vets over there are far in advance of any over here and that is from the University of Liege

who is supposed to be a famous place over this side of the Pond

I have Goran to do in about three months time, i will ask them to do his hips and Elbows without any sedation, i wonder what there reply will be, and i can imagine him being put on his back , it will be comical to see

I can now  see why forum posters put the Dogs X-Rays on this site for others to give there views on them if they are taken whist the dog is still concious, then one can understand why some of  hips etc are so badly done

In Montana, here is what I paid in the last few years for getting my male's hips and elbows done:

In 2006, his Pennhip exam cost 240.50

In 2007, his OFA elbows and hips cost 275.00

Both of those included reversal sedation and pre-sedation bloodwork.

I know that the radiology dept at the VMTH at UC-Davis uses no reversible anesthesia or heavy sedation--just a couple of mg. of dilute IV acepromazine--a tranquilzer to take the "edge" off.  My dogs were always OFA "good" or "excellent" at the VMTH.

With my current regular vet, I usually give my dogs an IM injection of acepromazine before leaving home for the 45 min drive.

When I took a friend's female to my vet last fall, the price was a little over $300 for office visit, hips/elbows, microchip, and OFA fee. I had given her an injection ace before leaving home. Yes, the price has doubled in recent years--and with the advent of digital radiography.

While ace is wonderful for taking that edge off.  Why still use it, when there's domitor out there and they don't have quite the ace hangover.

Yes, I agree--but ace costs pennies. When given IV (dilute) there is no hangover, IM just a tad, SQ more--orally, not rapidly metabolized--often a hangover. Vets cost enough as it is. Whay pad their pockets?

yes, ace does cost pennies.  But, I have to say having taken xrays with Ace vs. Domitor, I way prefer the Domitor!  And it's really nice to watch them literally just wake up and walk away.  We use Ace regularly in our pre med cocktail.  But, of late, we've also been using the Domitor instead of the Ace.  The ace cannot be reversed where as the Domitor and/or Torb can.  I know that GSD's are not as sensitive to Ace as some of the other herding breeds, ie:  Collies.  Sometimes the Greyhounds can be really really gorked from it too.  Two of mine have gotten Ace/Torb for lump removals under locals and they both had quite the hangover till the next morning.  I don't know, I guess working in the business, I look at it differently.

I had my Import girl done this past friday, totally under, and it cost me $91 for 3 views. She has Severe Dysplasia so no OFA fees, but they did give me a disk with the x-rays on it.
