I saw the whole program.  It focused mainly on puppy mills and the petstores they supply.  went inside a couple puppy mills with a rescuer who took the dogs they didn't want.  Very sad and gross - it is horrible how these people keep the dogs.  They then did a bit on shelters and dogs getting rescued out or euthanized.  Made several positive remarks about responsible breeders and if you are going to buy a dog - educate yourself to what you are buying - go see the breeders facilities etc.  Then they did the spay neuter thing which I have to say I agree with for most of the general public.  It was better than I thought it would be!

Don't know if this was true or not, but we had a client that said some of those puppy mills were in Lancaster, PA which is a very big hot bed.

Yep that what they said!

I did not see anything on the show that would give responsible breeders heartburn.

The show was great, Oprah and her staff deserve a pat on the back for a job well done.

I live 2 counties west of Lancaster. Most of the puppy mills there are run by the Amish and Mennonites. They no longer register their dogs with AKC, instead they use one of the splinter registries in order to avoid the AKC paperwork trail.  They are not kind to any of their animals - horses, livestock, dogs, whatever. It's very sad.

Hummm, I happen to like the Amish and Mennonites. It's not all sad in those parts. The best farrier and leather man I ever met, both was Amish.

Good for you, BabyEagle.  Would you buy a dog from them too?

Jade, I think your smear tactic against Yellowrose is way off base.  I thinks she is a very fine lady and an honest and ethical breeder.  It's pretty low to take such a cheap shot?  Everybody I know of who has done business with her has been well taken care of and is happy with her.

Jade, the use puppy holding cages with a wire mesh bottom are an excellent way to keep young puppies away from their urine and avoid abdominal scalding. Just because they may be used by "puppy millers" does not make them a bad thing.

Bob-O
