Why would anybody take their dog for a walk without something with to protect themselves? A walking stick, pepperspray, baseball bat, handgun, something? I saw some guy trying to walk his Golden getting way overly pestered by a free roaming Great Dane. Pepperspray would have been nice to have. I used a pitchfork at a campground once when people let their dog pack loose and they packed up on my very young GSD (on a leash) and myself.
My dogs are to protect me from people, my job is to protect them from other dogs. It's a partnership.

i always carry a stun gun when out walking lucy, except for 1 time. My husband and I decided to walk her and i didnt bring the stun gun, i figured it would be ok, we were in the middle of the park across from our house when 2 very small children let their pit bull loose, all i had time to do was put lucy between my legs, my back towards the pit bull so it would have to bite me first, and my husband grabbed the heavy link chain that was around the pit bulls neck and swung it around in mid air and threw it about 15 feet, the kids then grabbed their dog and took off running. So yes animules, i agree totally, we are to protect our dogs from other dogs, and it is a partnership. I never go outside of my gate without the stun gun. Alot of pit owners in my neighborhood fight their dogs, and it's always a possibility that you will run across one of them eventually in the neighborhood, I just hope it's not anytime soon .
