send a email, i did. just keep it clean. i asked if the dog was or wasn't his, why he didn't seek a gsd rescue group? i would encourage those who live in his state and/or district to question his behavior. again, keep it clean, but certainly express your outrage.

I hope this isn' true, but if it is he has some explaining to do.
Two Moons: Why would you feel the need to come on a thread just to post you have no opinion? What's your point?

Hi guys,
I have a point and an opinion but I hate expressing it because it always cause's an arguement. Its an emotional issue to say the least.
In my opinion the senator might have been uncaring but wasn't abusive. He called animal control as opposed to taking it out on a country road and dumping it, or beating it to death or starving it to death, or just blowing its brains out. No he called the pound. I cant count how many dogs have been dumped here where I live. I found one that was starved so bad there was no bringing it back from the brink of death, the dog suffered greatly, I put it out of its misery. I would have done far worst the the human who caused the dogs pain. I had never seen an animal this bad. Made me sick!!
You cant save every animal and should not try, its wrong in my opinion. Animal shelters and rescues are fine but some of those dogs adopted out go to new situations that could be just as bad as the one they were rescued from in the first place.
We each feel differently about this and thats good. I just don't like firing up more arguements that cannot be resolved. Its a waste of time. I believe in mercy, I hope someone takes mercy on me when my time comes.
Thats my opinion, and my point is this little story has no merit in the grand scheme of things, its only fuel for a fire.
I'm sure the senator has done worst things that the people would like to know about before the next election.
Its all sad, everyday, everywhere, just look hard enough. Or take the higher road and search out the good stuff to share.
Brent.

Some clarification is in order here: Uglydog, this is a SC State senator, not a US Senator from South Carolina as your response implies. I know nothing about this man, as I do not live in his district. But our US Senators, DeMint and Graham, are good and decent men with whom many may disagree, but whom many respect.

It has an "emotional issue"? I think it has to do with being humane, and yes when people see animals being mistreated it evokes emotion - In my opinion regardless of his record, what he did speaks volumes about his humanity. It does have to do with being responsible and making sure that if he wanted his pregnant dog PTS at least he could have taken the dog to a veterinarian and made sure it was done in as humane a manner as possible, instead of dumping her at the shelter like so much trash.
No one said anything about "saving every animal" we are talking about this animal which we have deemed important enough for us to be concerned about. If you want to "take the higher road and search out the good" that's really great, go for it. Constantly chastising people can be very passive aggressive when done by the sidelines often enough.

Nancy: I agree, we don't know the whole story. I hope it's not as bad as it seems, but if it is, the guy is a real asshole.

by Two Moons on 03 April 2008 - 22:04
I honestly hope the guy never has another pet. Some people aren't supposed to have pets.
