Pia,

You are welcome anytime.  That would be the least I could do for you.

Puputz,

I what ways do you mean slow maturing?  He is very playful right now, he is just 6 months old.  He is very protective of the house and "HIS" yard.  But I am pretty  certain for now he is all bark.  But he is extremely intelligent.  He is house broken, and learns NO very quickly.  He is a character too.  My wife gave him some water lastnight in a small tuperware bowl in the kitchen because his other water bowl was in the dish washer and he decided he wanted to be in the living room watching TV with us so he picked up his new water bowl, carried it in the living room, spilling the entire way there and then licked the drops fromt he side because he had already spilled.  He has really taken to our family.  He is tolerable of others but very alert.   He shows great instincts.  He bites hard and retrieves everything that he can.  I will share one more little story about him.  This is hard to believe but I swear it is true.

I had only had him for about 3 weeks and we were at my inlaws house and while I was getting Iron from the car my cell phone and clip came off and fell on the ground.  I didnt realize it right away but when I was about 15 feet away I called Iron because he was not with me and he was back smelling my phone.  I looked at my wife and said watch this.  Just for fun I said " Iron, Bring!" he looked at me, picked up the phone and brought it to me. It was friggen unbelievable.

Shawn

ps

I will post some photos of him swimming at tomorrows training.

I also have a Asko pup from PIA. His name is Immo and he is one of the smartest shepherds I have seen or have had the privilage of owning. He has an automatic recall, automatic retrieve, automatic heal.. it just amazes me how smart he is. I am in the process of trying to find local club to train with. I need to get some better pics of him but here are some pic's I took during our winter months here in New England.

Immo (6 months) on the left trying to get the toy from Wyatt. Wyatt is another dog I got from PIA. He is a Jago son.

Wonderful looking dogs - but how the heck old was Asko when he sired them? (PDB says he was born in 1994....) Perhaps I just haven't been around enough stud dogs, but isn't that unusual? Great that he was still in such good health though, that must bode well for these pups.....

I also have a female that is a Asko daughter Zerbal von Karthago. Now retired. We were luck to have a litter with her before we retired her. In my experience I found that Asko didn't throw consistant size dogs, what I mean is that there were some males that had the size of normal females. Asko was 12 years old when he passed if I'm correct, but I thought Asko passed last spring. Anyway we have kept a female from that breeding and yes it took her a long time to mature.

Pia,
You are a very lucky person to have one of Asko's final litters if not the last litter. I LOVE everything about Asko, and wish he was still with us so I can have one if his pups today. I had a chance to get one of his pups 3 years ago but at the time I was new to the sport and would not of done him any justice. Now that I have some experience working dogs and a couple club level trials under my belt I think it may be time to go over to the dark side and get a WL GSD. I would have loved to be able to have a Asko pup to take me to the next level now. Anyway, I wish you lots of luck with your pups and look forward to seeing them in the future on a SchH field.

Regards,
F

I believe that Asko was 13 or 14 years old when he was bred to Flower. Im sad to hear that he passed, he was an amazing dog. I had a Newman Vom Posthorn son (Cash vom Olympia) that passed last year at 11 1/2 and his father Newman lived to be 15+ years old. That just amazes me. I work in Veterinary Medicine and I have never personally seen a Shepherd live that old. :)

Asko  was am amazing dog he achieved every level one can dream of achieving in the sport !!  A true  pillar of/and working dog. Asko covered Flower  at 12.5  years of age  and tied  her natrual . My friend  told me  he looked no older then 7 years :)  Everyone who knew Asko close  had the same thought when this dog goes  he will go fast  because Asko was a dog that still ran besind the bike for 3 km  a day   and  wanted to get his bite at the local club    not willing to be  slowed down . He did slow down and 48 hours later  he died  . He died with dignety !  Thinking of this dog gives me goosebumps  he never  allowed  himself to be second best  ( I don't think dogs have that capacity of thinking   , this is a human term )  He just was that type of dog  and he will remain as one of THE BEST GSD"S in my book  with my upmost respect !

Pia
