Penny,
The absolute honest advice that I, as a breeder..can offer you....is....."buyer beware".
There are breeders that will offer and promise you the stars!........beware.
There are large, well known breeders that don't even know the GSD anatomy & standard........beware.
There are breeders that mass produce 15+ litters a year.....of course for (re-sale).........beware.
There are breeders that will always have the "perfect puppy" for you...or anyone, no matter what your needs are.................beware.
Do your homework, educate yourself......ASK QUESTIONS!
Not ALL of the breeders are looking to "sell you a used car"..............pm some of us privately....if you'd like.
LOTS of good advice on this site,...some not so good......"sort thru it"...
JMHO....nothing more.
Best of luck to you!

Very wise advice crhuerta. I couldn't agree with you more. Complete vetting of the GSD is a good idea for someone serious about acquiring a sound, healthy GSD (TLI, blood chemistries, thyroid, free bleeding, hip and elbow xrays, with a complete physical exam by experienced vet), paid for by the prospective buyer with a right of first refusal for an agreed upon price if everything is normal. Yes, it costs more, but it minimizes risk of a bad outcome and in my view can be money well spent.

Penny,
Imagine my surprise to see that you have posted my note in answer to your puppy inquiry on an international forum! I will choose to take the unsolicited PR as a positive result from an otherwise negative choice on your part.
I thoroughly enjoyed the information you sent this morning--four lengthy e-mails (complete with at least 50 url links to gorgeous photographs) about your detailed requirements for your new pup, your locale, your past dogs, your family history, your housing history, housing prices in your area, etc.
Sometimes the caveat needs to also be: BREEDER BEWARE!
Pups in the upcoming two litters will range from $1,500-3,000 (pet quality vs. show/breeding potential quality. The male pup that Robin liked in the NASS was from the previous Gorbi/Emma litter.

I agree with Ms.Kirkwood above. Emails between a seller and buyer are not intended to be posted for the scrutiny of others. Don't waste a breeders valuable time with four lengthly emails if you do not sincerely intend on buying a puppy or if the puppy is just out of your price range. I am sure that any breeder would rather be spending time working with their dogs or on assisting customers who are not just looking around. If you find out that a puppy is beyond what you think is a fair price politely and imediately notify the breeder and thank them for the information!
