Personally, I'd be leery of the dexemethasone, too. Steriods have a list of nasty side effects as long as your arm. I've even heard they will shrink a guy's balls if he's on them too long. Long term use will also thin bones.

My bitch is the result of her mom managing to open her kennel, and scale an 8 ft. chain link fence to get in with the stud. Fortunately, this WAS a mating the breeder was okay with: just NOT on that heat cycle!  It produced 2 healthy pups, a boy and girl, both of which were sold as potential breeding stock.

The only negative result is the stud was a recent import from Poland, and it took forever to get his registration straightened out with AKC!

Aye Sunsilver lassy, totally different thins.. dexamethasone be a "glucocorticoid" aye..it be not an "Anabolic-Androgenic" Steroid. "glucocorticoids" do not lower androgen level, or raise estrogen level. There be no Aromatization what so ever.aye estradiol (an estrogen) has an inhibitin' effect on t' male gonads. Blimey!! me hates when that be happenin Aye!

MiaM, i was wondering what about the breeding makes you think it should be aborted? father/daughter breeding or she bred to another breed... just curious.

WOW,

I just noticed a bunch of ads for accidental pregnances in humans....

I'm always showing people my dogs pedigrees & instead of calling their
ancestors dogs I say  "these people"
One good thing about breeding dogs is that you can pick the relatives!

My husband laughs and says that's what I treat them like anyway

Anyway, getting back to the subject of "Accidental breeding's"

I would let her whelp the pups if I planned to breed her in the future, cause sometimes
when you mess with mother nature she gets pissed off, like say you give her that shot
to get rid of pups, it could probably make her sterile, or maybe kill her, I heard that some
vets do not like to give that shot to abort pups, cause,
 & I just read
the article from MI GSD that the shot is very toxic.

But of course this is only my opinion, good luck with your decision.

my female had been given the mismatch shot.  I decided to breed her 2 years later (she had previously had a normal litter before shot) I bred her to a nice SCH3 male I had admired for sometime.  she appeared to have been bred, but over 1/2 way through, she started to look thinner.  so I assume she absorbed the pups.  I tried to breed her the next heat, same thing happened.  she appeared to be bred, but with like 3 weeks left seemed to have absorbed the pups again.  She ended up carrying 1 puppy to term.  She was unable to pass the puppy and required a total hyterectomy.  the puppy was very small and extremely deformed.  we were not allowed to see the puppy who was dead, so I can not give further detail except there were missing limbs etc.

the vets opinion, this was caused by the hormone shot she had been given...

I would stay away from hormone shots, giving a strong dosage of hormones will ALWAYS have a negative affect.  I would let the female whelp and raise any resulting puppies, depending on the breeding place the puppies as pets or sell them.  I would STRONGLY recommend NOT culling the puppies, this will have a negative affect on the female as well as on yourself.  The female WILL be traumatized by the death of her puppies and she it may change the way she acts with future litters.  If you were not planning on breeding the female in the future, get her spayed ASAP.
