I am so sorry..I am coming to the time to put my 12 year old to his final peace (bad hips). I am crying just thinking about it. I pray every night for him to go in his sleep. To have to make the choice to put your best friend down is the worst thing in the world. My decision is left to the vet who has been my saving grace. I can't make the decision..Bless you heart you gave your baby your heart and soul and your right you did lose a piece of your heart..You'll get it back one day.
