My youngest is the worst, whines for every emotion, it just has a different pitch, lol. The two are much worse when they are together though, they really feed off each other! I hate it when they are in the car and we stop in the woods to play or a park, or day care or whatever it is that gets them excited :)

I think I would go nuts! Mine hardly ever whine. They bark and get vocal when we are going to go do something but don't whine. One will whine a few whimpers when she thinks we are getting to far off schedule for a walk but thats it and its enough!

I guess they must be able to sense what each persons level of tolerance is. My two whine constantly when I'm at home, but if they really need something, the tone changes; Beckett has a hmmm-hmmm-hmmm kind of whine, Kali goes woo-ooow,starting high & ending low, sometimes it sounds like they're trying to talk! LOL! They're doing it right now! But when Carl comes home they quiet down right away, & watch him like hawks. They know he's the Alpha here, & they jump to his slightest signal, it's pretty funny. jh

our mix doesn't whine at all, but angus is pretty vocal. for about 5 minutes after anyone comes over he'll carry on with that wooowoooWOOO nonsense, then he settles down. he also whines as soon as i start preparing their meals;wooowoooWOOO.... he gets very whiny if myself or my son plays "run away". then it's WOOOWOOOOHMMMMMWOOOOOWOOOOOO.we crack up with his "talking" and whining. my polish neighbor says it proves he a good german shepherd! both dogs have VERY dramatic sighs. and angus grunts. luckily, the whining is only for a few situations.

Mine are all quiet. My male only whines when the girls are in standing heat.

Not too much whining anymore now that he is a big boy. My other male....Oh God, never shut up! He'd paw at the windows, howl, whine bark, yawn, cry, scream always something. He was a nerve bag though. Nowadays I just get anticipation whines while preping food, coming out or in, driving in after being gone awhile. Last night I let big baby butt stay in so when I kicked him out in the morning, he thought a whine at the glass door would get him back in, after he did his business until I went over, opened it, looked at him and said knock it off. He'll tell me when it's walking time, time to eat but other than that no barking at all at home unless I tell him to. We do get frequent howling matches thanks to the Fire Dept up a few blocks. Sometimes they egg eachother on, "lets see who can go the longest or until mom comes out and yells at us". I get more bored yawns out of my guy than anything, or little huffs when he flops down on the floor.

Actually its not a whine its a vocal scream and bark combination...howl with a scream and a bark all in one....hard to explain ,,,,but it is very intense..I have threatened to get training collars just have to buy 8 of them... Korbelbach boy is the barker...he doesnt scream he has a quick bark and I tell him to put a bowl in it." and he does...and he carries it and chases it..when it gets beat up I buy him a new stainless steel bowl...

Yellowrose of Texas - you nailed it on the head. SCREAMING and barking and yodelling is what I get during ANYTHING remotely excited. Even going out to pee.

My boy was a whiner when he was younger, mostly in the crate but has grown out of it. He loves to do the "siren" though whenever he hears an emergency vehicle. They both are barkers though and mostly it's just talking to the neighbors, being excited and telling everyone they are there - "look at me". They don't like the neighbor dog as she really antagonizes them at the fence and they go balistic - sounds like world war 3 going on.
I did get them both soft muzzles a few months ago - neither of them likes it much and now whenever they are outside barking like idiots at whatever bird lands on "their fence" and I want them to settle down, I will put them in the outdoor kennel and hang their muzzle on the fence and warn them - not a peep out of them - all they have to do is see it hanging there - LOL!
My boy likes to bark (only at certain people) when we are in the SUV parked somewhere and I had tried everything - the other night I just brought the muzzle with me and showed it to him and he behaved like a perfect gentleman the whole time!
These dogs are so smart it is scary sometimes!
