Viagra maybe??

The female, even if she is standing, is probably not quite ready for breeding - not ovulating yet. Experienced males will sometimes not be "that interested" until it is really good timing. My older experienced male has scared me a few times by getting on/off "going through the motions" but not following through, losing interest (getting tired?) pretty quickly - then a couple days later takes him 3 seconds for a tie bing-bam-boom. Keep trying, I'll betcha in a few days he gets the job done just fine.

At what age did he come to the states and how many litters has he had since you have had him?

You should check him for Herpes Virus infection! The penis has to be thouroughly inspected if any changes can be seen (reddening, itches or small ulcerations). If he has local changes he will be interested, but will not mount. Is there discharge seen from the preputium?
Anyway, you should visit an experienced Repro vet!

If the stud dog needs any help at all - if he doesn't have the drive to breed (no libido), or he physically needs help, or help with drugs - he should not be bred.

Molly's responce was very accurate! You should not assume that because a female is in heat and interested that she is ready for breeding on a certain day. An experienced male will wait until the right day and might not waste his energy on a female who is not yet ovulating. A younger male might breed on any day !!!!!!!! Many males can breed at an older age; six years old should not be a major concern based just on age. Try a vet exam and getting a sperm check done. Then next time your female goes into heat do progesterone testing so that you know the right day. If it is the right day he might need a bit of manual "encouragement" and some assistance in proper "positioning"!
